I remember thinking I wanted Fulmer out when Penn State beat UT in the Outback Bowl after the 06 season.

Phil should have resigned! He loves Tennessee, has given his all for Tennessee..so he should have seen he wasn't getting the job done anymore and hung it up at UT. Can you imagine how he would be looked upon by sacrificing himself for the better good of the University. He had won a NC and then if he would have given it up when he wasn't the best man for the job anymore. Now that would have made him Legend. Unfortunately like most great players who play way past their great years.......they love the lime light to long.....for themselves.

Years ago---UT would be at the top of the SEC right now if they had made the right move earlier.

It has been amazing to hear on the radio and reading the press about this debate. Many in the VN think that it did not come soon enough others feel MH should have waited until after the KY game to make the call and still others are upset that Fulmer was fired at all. I was listening to the Sunday Sports Soundoff yesterday and Tim Irwin has always been saying that MH should have waited. Maybe so. It think Hamalton made a pure business decision. Washington, Lincoln, Grant and Franklin forced MH's hand on this one. It is characteristic of the financial times PANIC! When you see 20,000 empty seats in a stadium that can seat 103,000, it lets the business major know real quick that the cash cow is in danger of drying up.

I've heard a lot about the family atmosphere on the team, the team has lost it's father figure, and about traditon. Reality hit this year. Tennessee football like all football in the BCS era is just plain business. Fulmer was fired because it was a business decision. He grew comfortable and secure. He says he still has the fire to coach, but that does not look like the case in the past 5 to 8 years. He should have made some business decisions of his own over the years by firing coaches who were not getting the job done at a higher standard of excellence. Randy Sanders fell on the sword for Phil because he did not have the business sense to fire him earlier. He made a bad business decision in the hire of current OC. Another business decision was to leave Crompton in at QB for way too long. Coach Fulmer is big on loyalty and that is a good thing to a point. It finally cost him his job and that is just business.
