i know there was a lot of on and off again talk- even saban infamously saying that he would not be the next coach at alabama. is there any chance that is what is happening here with gruden? does anyone remember how that all played out? or is this gruden thing, from the beginning, just pipe-dreaming message board based rumor mill that never really had legs to it to big with?

I think Gruden is a pipe dream. I think the guy may like being wooed, but I doubt he's ever been a realistic candidate.

What needs to happen is we need to fire Dooley quickly and do a proper coaching search. Do thorough research. Bring guys in to interview. Find out who has the right mindset to compete in the SEC. Hart needs to do his job and determine who is the best coach we can get. And then he needs to do whatever it takes to get him.

What I'm afraid is going to happen is that our boosters will get their feelings hurt when Gruden rejects them and they'll just go give the job to Petrino because they know he'll say yes.

pipe dreaming...jon was polite and listened.......but he never going back to college...the NFL gets in the blood of some men. I think he has been there too long now
