When losing makes you a winner

Mike and Mike were discussing this on the way into work. Golic actually said the kid should be offended that he was given the win like that. He said it was disrespectful to him and the game that he did not have to earn it and he should have felt that way. Different perspective. Greeny agreed...

I guess I feel the same way as Mike and Mike. Although it was the nice thing to do...You are not honoring the game by losing on purpose aka. fixing the outcome.

I could understand that perspective but also think a college kid would be thrilled to make nationals as a senior and probably wouldn't dwell on it too much. Hopefully it will be an impetus for a great performance.

It's a nice thought I guess, but I'm not sure it was the right thing to do at all.

He was trying to do the right thing but my question is why did he have to make it so obvious and hit his drive forty yards out of bounds? If he wanted to lose the match he could have intentionally mis hit a ball or miss a putt.

I don't get that either. He obviously wanted to do "the right thing", but his ego wouldn't allow him to do it without it being obvious that he was losing on purpose. All he had to do was drive it in the fairway and then pull the wrong club and either airmail the green, dump it in a bunker, short side it etc.

The "right thing" is to compete to the best of your ability. What he did is wrong and an insult to competition everywhere.

Even if he decided to do this.. He should have just kept it to himself. You lose your integrity when you have to tell people about your deeds.
