game with 11 tackles and 2 for a loss, I hope we can stop the player bashing on him and an our other players.

The fact that Jumper is in the conversation to start means he is a good LB who beat out 2 future All SEC players, by all accounts (Bituli and Ignont), for the role.

From what I have seen in videos with the coaches, THE LAST REASON they would ever give for defensive struggles last year is Colton Jumper. SO... what do you guys know that they don't? Which of you is watching more game tape?

Look. We all want an AJ Johnson, side-line to side-line alpha-male in the MLB spot (Jumper is not this guy), but lets consider it a blessing that we have some depth to allow DKJr to get better and for Bituli and Ignont to develop into the next AJ.

I will be worried if the coach says on Monday "we are really going to need some one to step up/grow up/etc..." this is something you hear a lot from coaches. But what you are going to hear after this one is "We have 2 good options with Jumper and Bituli that we are very comfortable with. And Ignont is starting to come along as well."

Go Vols. Beat Tech.

Jumper played good at times last year, but he was also burned and ran through at crucial times as well.

It is what it is though, hope he steps up if given the nod.

Thanks for standing up for this Young Man! He is a VFL! There should be a pic of Jumper beside anything that has VFL on it! I Love Kirkland, but would rather have him healthy for the future games! I live in N Alabama, Ive seen Ignont Play, this young man is ready! He will make plays!

Unfortunately Colton Jumper has never managed 11 solo tackles in a game, and only had 4 TFL during the entire 2016 season; the likelihood of him accomplishing 11 solo with 2 for loss against GT is pretty low.

First I know not to get into an argument with you...
As to your summation of Jumper last year, would you wonder or think that maybe he was under orders to "layback" not get sucked in. With so much weakness in the d-line would he not be told to "cover" for their shortfalls?

I'm much more optimistic about Jumper. Rock spoke highly of his improvement. And Shoop did as well. He is a more developed, experienced player now, and he could have a really good season. He doesn't bring the same skillset as Kirkland, but he can do the job.

Who said Solo Tackles? No one measures tackles in a game by Solo... If so 100 tackle seasons would be very rare.

Also, Georgia Tech is a linebackers dream game for making tackles AND tackles for a loss because of their lateral pitch game.

I am not saying he will do it. But I just want to call you out on your typical, twist-the-information bulls**t. If you are going to act like an analyst and want people to believe you, gonna need to be smarter and more honest.

You are working under the assumption that Jumper's stats are the result of poor Dline play, but that's speculation at best.

Even it if were the case, 11 solo tackles and 2 TFL against GT would require Jumper to improve upon his best single game tackling(7) by 70%, and his best game TFL (1) by 100% to hit those numbers.

It's not impossible, but it is unlikely given his past performances.

Once again: You are twisting an industry standard of how to talk about sports to fit your desire to make jumper look bad.

Jerod Mayos best season, by your measure, was 80 tackles.

And AJ Johnson's best season, by your measure, was 63 tackles.

We all know that this is BS. Those seasons were 140 tackle seasons and 138 tackle seasons respectively

I'm thinking you don't have a real understanding of the MLB position.

Is there a more polarizing player than Colton Jumper? He really gets the debate going

And all he does is play his heart out...and stays Available!!

Kirkland:
- Torn pec before 1st season
- Misses 6 games 2nd season
- Knee Injury before 3rd season

Don't under estimate Jumper, he will be the QB of the defense in DK's absence. His role will be reading the calls from the SL and setting the 'D' On top of his position responsibilities. Not worried one bit.

Please explain what you know that neither I nor our coaches know.

Also please enlighten all of us about how football you have played and coached that lead to this knowledge, just so we can confirm it's not total bulls**t.

At least BeardedVol tried to use stats to knock down the Vols. You aren't even trying.

Lets take a different angle at this. Jumper was eligible to come back, and at the very least is a safety net for this very issue ( Plus he is supposed to be better than he was ). Thank goodness he stayed, because this could have been worse.

I'm not trying to do anything to Jumper. I like him though I don't think he is an SEC starter. His ability is what it is, and if a coach had the choice between a healthy DK Jr. and Jumper, they'd put DK Jr. in every time. That's just the reality of the situation.

As far as those other players you mentioned, their stats (which dwarf Jumper's on every level), have nothing to do with Jumper's abilities or lack thereof.

Kirkland is obviously better, but I am not worried about Jumper. He has come a long way from two seasons ago. We'll be fine.

We will never learn to stop anointing players as great before they ever play, will we?

If it kinda like limiting Kamara's carries to feed hurds ego? That worked out well huh?
