What's wrong with the Defense?

Front seven just isn't that good. Throw in a secondary that has been shuffled around about every game along with being inexperienced. The result is what you see. We just need to be more fundamentally sound. We don't have to be dominate just smart. We are neither.

I was in school with those guys that were there at the game last week....the 1967 team...I cannot imagine what they must think about our program...7 All Americans on that team? I don't know what the problems are but we are no longer a dominant force on defense....just mediocre. What must change?

We have good athletes, so why are we so average on defense all of a sudden?

One word, coaching. I do not believe that Chavis is doing his part when it comes to getting us ready for the season. I also notice that our defense is slow compared to other schools.

we have no ability to make any team in the country one dimensional. that most often starts with taking away the run and our front 7 has no prayer of doing that to anyone.

IMO, the defensive line requires 0 double teams, but you'll get plenty of others who believe our problems are at LB and others who believe the secondary is our weakness. The lack of any particular strength might be a problem, but I'm not sure.

hat, I would say we have good athletes. I would say we do not have great athletes. And, the only great athletes we have on the defensive side of the ball have no experience (Berry, Vinson, Martin).

Our defense has been poor so far because our DT's are not dynamic like they used to be. Our DE's are not good pass rushers. Hopefully Martin and Walker can help with that soon. Our LB's are not as fast or as fundamentally sound as they used to be. Our secondary is very, very young and inexperienced. Look at the roster from last year to this year and see how many DB's that were going to play that are not playing right now.

i'll give you one more example....year in and year out we bring in "top talent"...when was the last time you saw a Tennessee team stop the option run by the opposing team? that my friend falls on coaching and the schemes they teach
