Whats up with locked threads?

I have seen threads that turned into arguments between two people disappear but I have not seen them locked until today. What's up with that?

Typically, if a thread is too far gone to be useful, we make it disappear. We also have the option though of just closing a thread which allows the thread to still be viewed but not replied to. At certain times, a thread can even be reopened once cooler heads have prevailed.

But we all know that cooler heads aren't going to prevail. It'll just get carried over into half a dozen more threads. I say let em have a thread to throw down, no holds barred, winner take all unch_bag: :boxing: :machinegun: :gun:
