Whats the word on the Wes Rucker fatal accident

No chance for an individual policy. I'm surprised he didn't have a group policy through WBIR. Group policies are usually guaranteed issue if your employer has enough employees.
Most group policies require employment for at least six months before they're in effect and even those have full or partial exclusions for people with certain preexisting conditions.

There’s a video posted on tik tok of the accident. The person who took the video had no clue who was involved. From the way Wes’ car was damaged, it appeared that Wes was likely stopped and the truck hit him full speed. Rear of the car was completely destroyed. The truck that hit him came to a stop on top of Wes’ car. Just incredibly sad.
I saw it, I didnt expect to see it. It appears that the truck was traveling a high rate of speed and the outcome of the accident was sadly not surprising.

Having worked in a field for 30 years where we saw the results of vehicular speed and recklessness....trust me...SLOW DOWN and DRIVE LIKE YOU HAD YOUR MAMA IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. Serious prison time should be reserved for those violators, especially when fatalities are involved!

And thankfully you can afford it. I'd bet that most can't
My 70+ year old grandfather took out a policy a few years ago. Silly if you ask me but it can still be done. Yes it was for only a few 100K and was hundreds a month. We live in a world where the norm is 800$ car payments and 1200$ cell phones.

Not knocking the guy after a tragedy but it’s something that’s really non negotiable if you’re a soul provider.

For most, it probably cost less per month than several of the streaming services they are likely paying for, or their monthly Starbucks expenditures.

If you are young, 20s-40s with kid(s) please get term life insurance. If you are uninsurable due to pre-existing medical conditions, or it makes the premiums virtually unaffordable, put more money into your 401k 403b or 457 (all different but essentially the same), depending on which plan is available through employment (private sector, government, etc) retirement plan and make sure your beneficiary information is up to date. Like life insurance, these transfer to the beneficiaries outside of probate. If no beneficiaries are listed, it's my understanding it becomes part of your estate and then goes through probate? Any attorneys that can chime in? While not the same as life insurance because retirement plans have to have time to grow, if you are uninsurable, don't let that keep you from saving for your heir(s). Yes, this is an individual retirement plan, but if something happens to you, it transfers to your beneficiaries

We're talking most people with previous health issues such as Rucker.

That's not at all what it sounds like. The truck apparently did not have time to stop, most likely because it was speeding and following too closely, like 90% of the bro-dozers on 40/75.
"Bro-dozer" That's a great term for the jacked up diesels, imma steal that one.

They generally are the worst offenders on the roadways, followed by people with Kentucky tags for whatever reason. I figure it's because they are mostly young guys in their 20's and 30's.

Putting the insurance issue aside, I am sure there will be an astute attorney involved that will garner significant moneys from the individual or individuals deemed responsible for this negligent death. Hopefully the GFM account will be only a small part of the amount the family will realize from this tragedy.

One fender bender put traffic to a halt. An older f-350 was not paying attention and pretty much ran onto the top of Wes's car.

They are the most dangerous drivers on the road and it’s not even close. They’re always speeding, always cutting people off, always tailgating. Not afraid to admit that they worry me much of the time and I hate driving around them.

In general I find driving to be more unsafe than ever before these days. It feels like almost everyone you come across is either driving 30 miles over the limit, or they’re on TikTok as they speed down the road, not looking up for anything. I know bad drivers have always existed, but these habits have exploded recently.

Agreed. I see a near-miss almost every single time I drive on I-75/I-24 in Chattanooga. And when I don't, I see someone blatantly staring at their phone behind the wheel. Yesterday it was a guy in a huge jacked-up truck looking at his phone.

Last summer, I had my wife, sister-in-law, and niece in my car heading back from dinner, and I had to slam on my brakes in the far-right lane of I-24 E in East Ridge. I looked up at my rearview mirror and a big pickup was absolutely barreling towards us. He finally saw the brake lights and slammed on his brakes. Luckily he had good brakes because he stopped probably one foot from my bumper, maybe less. I was 100% bracing for a serious impact when I saw him in my rearview mirror. I assume he was on his phone and didn't realize traffic had stopped. That night could have ended very differently for the four of us.

Has anybody been arrested or charged? Just so happened we went down I-40 on the way back from the mountains the day before. Traffic was bumper to bumper going 80 MPH with idiots tail gating and cutting in and out of lanes. Surprised a fatal accident doesn't happen every day. And how can anyone in an over-sized pick-up not see traffic was stopping in front of him..

Wonderful news on the Go Fund me. Also great discussion on the need for life insurance if you are married with kids. If you are reasonably healthy there is no excuse for not having coverage as term insurance is surprisingly inexpensive.

Be sure and shop around, it is amazing the difference in rates between companies, Term is the easiest product to compare,; years of coverage, amount and premium are all you need to know. State Farm and Farm Bureau are excellent companies for Homeowners and Auto insurance but dont just call them and buy a life policy without checking around. If you are a smoker once you see the difference in smoker and non smoker rates this would be a good time to quit.

Question for any tax attorneys. Are the proceeds from Go Fund me accounts taxable?
Hitting an interstate traffic jam suddenly is my #1 most stressful driving moment. I am instantly looking in my rear-view praying the guy behind me sees it too and isn't about to crush me.

That is always terrifying. I did get hit once from behind but she was only going about 15mph by the point of collision. Still, I had whiplash for a week and my body felt strange for a few days. I can't imagine a 70 mph collision

I’ve always heard how cheap term rates were and did not find that to be the case when shopping around last year. I’m young with no major health issues. Don’t know if it was a bad time to be looking but I can look at an actuarial table and do math and it didn’t seem anywhere close to reasonable. I realize there has to be a profit incentive but the quotes I got were excessive. Maybe the years were too long I can’t remember but I might’ve been looking at 30 years (I’m under 30 now so wouldn’t have taken me into old age)
< 30 you should be able to get 500K for < 50 a month. You went to the wrong site.

Obviously Wes had other health issues that complicated matters, but if you have a spouse or kids that depend on your income, get a term life policy. Dont just have it through your job but go out there and get with an independent agent who will shop rates for you. Avoid whole life or cash value scams.

Even if you dont think you are that healthy, shop rates. My better half got underwritten 3.5 years after cancer and with a heart issue...
I sell group life and we offer up to 150K with no health questions through work. I hope Wes company had that benefit

I dirive around America just fine and then almost get killed three times in 25 minutes in Knoxville.
Ever been anywhere near Maryland?

Imagine all of the third world driving cultures in the world colliding with the worst of America and boom, Maryland. 495 is a blast. And by "blast" I mean pray you don't get blasted off the road by some idiot with windows so tinted there's no way he can see through them.

As a business owner, most group policies aren’t great and get expensive quick. This is not the way you set your family up for success.

In the past 10 years, I have tried to avoid the interstate highways because of fear for my and my passingers' lives. When I go to Atlanta I take 411 to Chastsworth Ga. and then I am on 505 for about 12 miles before I get on other two lane roads. The good part about taking that route is it is also quicker.
