What's the most IMPORTANT game for UT this year?

and probably never will unless it's two teams ranked in the top 3-5 both either undefeated or 1 loss type teams, where the underdog beatst the previously undefeated team.......like say had ARk beaten FL last year, i have a hard time believing that FL wouldn't have gone to a BCS game........

LSU would have gotten the at-large bid over Florida, IMO. Both teams would have had two losses, but getting upset in the conference championship game would have dropped UF out of it. Just look at what happened to UT in 2001.

The only way I see a loser of the SECCG getting in is a situation like you say, with two teams coming in at maybe 12-0 and 11-1. If 11-1 were to beat the undefeated team, both of them would probably make it in. But honestly, what's the likelihood of having two SEC teams virtually run the table in the same year?

possibly, the only reason i think it may have been an issue is that LSU got destroyed by FL earlier in the season.......woud have been a tough call either way.

Following up on an ealier post, I count 24 times that Fulmer beat at team by 30 or more points out of the 90 games he was hfc in the 1990s. Since 2000 Coach Fulmer has led UTK in 88 games, and the Vols have won by 30 or more points 8 times and 3 of those were in 2000. I realize that some teams have improved but we are basically talking about the worst teams on the schedule each year whoever they happen to be. The killer instinct seems to be long gone.

I think you will find a direct correlation to our offensive points per game and the offensive coordinator.

When Randy was there the hope was to score enough to win. David goes into every game planning to score 30+ and he tells Chief to hold 'em under 30.

Tennessee's most important game would be Alabama.
Because They Just got Saban and They Think he is going to be great.

#1 is California...

- Season opener.
- Road game.
- West Coast. Jet lag.
- Team we scalded last year. Have to overcome the "revenge factor".
- National TV audience.
- It's an "F" game. Every eye on Fulmer, the freshmen, and our focus.

#1A is Florida...

- SEC opener.
- Road game.
- Gainesville. Unless it's Va Tech, Ben Hill Griffin has been tough for us.
- Team we played just well enough to lose to last year.
- National TV audience.
- It's a "T" game. Every eye on Tebow, the Tennessee ground game, and the Tennessee defense.

Exactly. That is why I find it funny those think a loss to Cal or Florida torpedos the season.

Loss to Cal? No. Not an SEC game, and we can recover to win 9 or 10 of the next 11. Depending on how we lose to Cal.

Loss to UF? Yes. And in this case, how makes little difference. The difference here is the mental edge UF has over UT. A loss to UF is a message to the UT players that they're still "#2" in the SEC East. That won't help things down the road against UGA, Bama, and Arkansas.

If the torpedo hits the right spot, it can send a carrier to the bottom.

JMO.

Go Vols.

yeah, the reality is, it wouldn't because there's so much left of the season, but it certainly would put a big damper on what "could've been" both nationallly and conf. wise. it's the constant coming from behind and hoping that someone else does the dirty work for you...ie, knock off FL a couple of times while you hold serve and hope for the best.

we all just want to control our own destiny. that's all. and you do that by winning the games you play....seems easy enough to me.

Jake got it right.

Considering UF has won the East once since 2000 while UT and UGA have won it 2 times and 3 times respectively, I disagree. If you're worried about being #2, it's probably because we've been in Georgia's shadow lately.

Cal is the most important game because it's the 1st game. If you look at it in terms of winning "one game at a time" then winning the 1st game seems to me like the most important game because it's the 1st game of the year. After that, the Southern Miss game will be the most important game. Regardless of the outcome of the first 2 games, the Florida game will then become the most important game. I want to be 2-0 going into the Florida game, and then and only then, will I consider the Florida game the most important.
