I've read all the posts after the Vandy game, but I don't remember seeing anything about why Maymon didn't play. He had seen several minutes a game since he became eligible, but nothing against Vandy. Does anyone know what the problem is with this guy?

i think he's borderline usless on the perimeter. he transferred to UT because marquette wanted to play him inside and he wanted to play the 4. but he can't shoot. he's a big body but from watching him shoot and trying to drive from the perimeter i think he'd be better suited inside behind fields and big baby.

We have a lotta guys who can't shoot and he is one of them. At least that what I saw in the games that he has played.

Maymon faded away at the Arkansas and Florida games. He received less minutes (granted he didn't get many in the first place) and was therefore unproductive. I wouldn't be surprised to see him play more when we go up against bigger front-courts. I don't know exactly why people complain so much about the turnovers. He does it like nearly every other player on our squad. Look at his TOs compared to any other player (minus a select few).

Remember a few days ago, everyone was pushing for the staff to reduce the rotation. Looks like for whatever reason that CTJ has done that.

steve pearl for some reason is getting all of maymons minutes...which is a complete joke...Maymon played 15-20 minutes against the blow out win over memphis and pearl played mop-up duty. since pearl has been suspended tony jones has took maymon out of lineup in place of steven pearl, which is a joke...maymon is very productive when giving minutes

Maymon drives to the basket when he gets the ball. Can't finish and usually gets fouled on the play. Can't hit a ft, so basically a turnover. If he could hit 70% of his ft, then he would be seeing 20+ minutes a game. Had too many turnovers his last couple games.

Daddy Ball has gotten the best of him in CBP eyes he's less valuable than the infamous SP... Its sickening but its a fact. Only college in the world where SP would play over Maymon. Although Maymon is not great but he is great when compared to "Beak"

Not that I'm defending SP's playing time, but this team's "poor" performance coincides with Maymon's eligibility to play. Probably coincidence but Maymon hasn't exactly wow-ed since joining the team.

Even if the dude can't shoot, he has a better chance of defending the Ezeli kid from Vandy then Fields or Pearl. At least the kid does have some sort offense unlike when Pearl is on the court. Its the lesser of two inconsistencies.

Incorrect. Maymon makes more negative plays. Difference is that Pearl realizes what he can and cannot do and does a good job of playing his role. Maymon on the other hand continues to try to do things he cant do and does not understand his role. That is the reason the minutes have been that way. And its completely legit.

Maymon- poor decision making. Pearl- self aware. Maymon provides at best an equal amount of defense as Pearl, but negative in ball handling and offensive decision making.

He can't shoot, but might get better with more playing time with his new teammates. He is a role player at best and provides depth down low. I would disagree that he is more effective at this point than Pearl.

To the OP:
For six games Maymon did just what they asked of him. Very solid. Didn't take stupid shots. Had 7 turnovers in the 6 games. Decent rebounding (on a generally weak rebounding team). (He is indeed an atrocious free throw shooter.) He had a bad game against Arkansas, then saw his minutes cut to 5 against Florida and none against Vandy.

Everybody likes to talk about "intangibles" (and see "intangibles" for Pearl that aren't actually there), which are important, but not as important as "tangibles". For instance, scrapping is good, but actually grabbing the rebounds is better.

As an example, here's rebounds per 40 minutes:
Williams 15
Maymon 14
Harris 11
Fields 11
Hall 10
Pearl 4

Here is the intangible that Pearl adds, SPARK! I don't think you know more about coaching than Tony and Bruce. But you really seem to feel you know more about it. You must think they don't track rebounds. Anyone can see the energy and toughness Pearl brings with his limited athletic ability.

Maymon has 0 discipline as a b-ball player. He cannot shoot free throws. In fact his free throw form is one of the worst I have ever seen in my life. A poor free throw form is usually due to not practicing on your shot, or not being taught how to correct your shot, which amazes me at this level. He turns the ball over multiple times in the game on extremely dumb plays and he shoots fade away 18 footers, instead of taking it to the whole like a man and utilizing his big body. I REALLY DON'T LIKE HIS GAME, and he looks like he is the type of player Jerry Green would recruit that has 0 basketball intelligence.

S. Pearl was actually playing really well this year and I think he needs to be reinserted in the lineup for 5-10 minutes a game. He is a very solid defensive player and will contribute more than Maymon this year.
