I've lived here for 20 years and I don't think Knoxville has a signature cuisine.

After today they're known for the comfortable cots in the control tower at Mcghee/Tyson Airport.

They say bad PR is better than no PR, but I don't think that Knoxville needs any more bad PR.

Knoxville/East Tennessee is beautiful. Thats what it's known for. I love that area. What I miss in the South/Tennesse: pulled pork bbq, catfish dinners, and sweet tea. You can get that stuff here, just not the same.

East Tennessee is gorgeous. Knoxville, outside of Neyland Stadium, and maybe Gay St., is one of the ugliest towns in the south.

Knoxville and the surrounding area of East Tennessee and the Smoky Mountains is God's Country, although I would think Montana is as well. THe idiot from Western KY that posted Knoxville is an "ugly" town obviously has not ventured outside of Magnolia Ave. I would recommend spending time downtown around Market Square Mall as well as some of the fine establishments along Gay St. (Downtown Brewery, Sapphire). In addition, eat at Calhoun's on the River and get the BBQ ribs. Take a 45 minute ride to the Smoky Mountains and visit Cades Cove. Drive from Cades COve over to Cherokee ,NC (about 1 hr. 45 minutes) on a clear day and see some of the best views the South has to offer.
