Whats one main thing you want your next president to do?

I wont get into Bush bashing just in case I offend anyone. But it's obvious he's completely ignored the peoples needs.

This is simple math.
Crime. Being an African American, born and raised in the projects of Atlanta, I know what it means to be broke. Not only are you broke, but your parents are broke, grandparents are broke. No money. A lot of my friends I had growing up are either dead or in jail.

This is where the simple math comes in. Where there is no money, there is crime. Whether you are black in the projects or white in the trailer parks, a large % of criminals live in low income environment. Think about it do you see Donald Trump or Oprah Winfrey doing drive-bys or robbing liquor stores? I really dont see how you can disagree with me on this.

So, low money high crime. Simple math
No education, low money.

Detroit, MI has one of the highest crime rates in America.
Did you also know it has the lowest % of HS graduates? 25%!! This means 75% of the kids who enroll end up dropping out. This is not acceptable. My point is, some how some way, our next president whether its a he, or she, white, or black, democrat, or republican, needs to concentrate on getting or youth back in schools.

Instead of trying to "help other countries" maybe we need to address our own countries issues first.

More jobs for the classroom intolerant. The smartest people I know got their smarts from doing things, not listening to some blow hard talk about stuff

If you do not mind, I am going to go ahead and dissect your argument.
Whats one main thing you want your next president to do?
AKA the next Chief Executive of the Federal Government

ignored the peoples needswants.
Absolutey. As he should.

Aside from pushing an agenda to legalize most narcotics and recreational drugs (which is the reason most people are in prison today), I fail to see where this is a Federal problem. Solve it on the local level.

Think about it do you see Donald Trump or Oprah Winfrey doing drive-bys or robbing liquor stores? I really dont see how you can disagree with me on this.
Oprah Winfrey grew up extremely poor. She was also raped as a teenager. If anything, Oprah is the antithesis of your argument. I cannot believe I just defended Oprah Winfrey...

You might want to check out how many of those criminals were actually members of the UAW and how many of them were on the payrolls of Ford and GM.

My argument would follow the lines of "idle hands are the Devil's tools." There are plenty of people in Detroit that bring in ~$30-50K, annually. However, they only work about 25 hours per week, and end up spending about $65-70K per year.

Would you like Barack, John, or Hillary to personally tutor these kids?

Instead of trying to "help other countries" maybe we need to address our own countries issues first.
We are already a welfare state. What more do you want us to do to help the poor masses?

What is important to me? How about the government letting me put off getting a "real job" for the next 12 or 13 years...?

Stop Illegal Immigration = protecting jobs + driving some criminal element down

I won't go as far as you since it's ridiculous to debate with someone who thinks personal responsibility is a function of the gov't. You did a better job anyway.

more handouts is obviously the answer. We must help those who won't help themselves.

I do think there is something to be said about education. Mostly, it's become too political. Get rid of the teachers union and start paying good teachers good salaries. If you can't teach our kids what they are supposed to know we replace you. You're a liability. We spend HUGE amounts of money on education and we're not getting the return. It doesn't take that kind of money to learn something. This is Sam Houston's school in Blount Co.

Sam Houston Schoolhouse

Kids went there to LEARN and they did. We need to find our way back to that.

We need to get back to understanding that a fully functioning and self-sustaining community of individuals, needs a solid mix of innovative intellectuals, remembers of the past/storytellers, people with just enough smarts that others are able to delegate management responsibilities to, and people, that for the most part, do not have the capacity nor mental drive/focus to educate themselves, yet do have the work ethic to complete menial and redundant tasks without much complaint.

i'm sorry but helping the poor, is something i have a problem with. what percentage of the poor really have disabilities where they can not work. for those i don't mind helping. it's the bums who are to lazy to get up and get a job that piss me off. they wanna sit back relax smoke their wacky weed, and drink a cold one. also they don't mind having 5-10 kids in their spare time. these are the bums that i can not stand. i'm working to support them. these are the ones i have a problem with.

protecting our borders would be huge for me. lets build a fence 20ft high straight concrete

I have no problem helping the poor, on my own through charities that I choose and at what rate I choose to do so.

I feel the same way about helping the elderly and the sick.

I think we shouild declare war on Mexico and annex it, precedents are Texas, NM, AZ, CA. then we would have a much smaller border to guard at Southern Mexico, and all illegals from Mexico would be legal instantly. Then they would become taxpayers.

What is the most important for me? That the next President NOT be Obama, Clinton, or Mc Cain.

All kidding aside, some of you guy's arguments are pretty good. The poverty issue does not bother as much as others. I agree with realUT on that stance. I'll choose how to aid them.

As far as immigration goes, I live in Texas, so I have a skewed view of the situation at times that can change daily. The point that immigration is overwhelming hurting our economy has several sides to it that include effects on education, welfare, social services, and medical costs. Taxation increases that are directly fluctuated by the overflow can piss me off, however many of these immigrants serve a significant role in our society.

I'm for legal immigration, I mean, hell, we are America. Thats what we do. But there needs to be a much stricter rational, and reasoning when dealing with them.

Lastly, Canda sucks, but if they got oil..........

I know we can whip them!
