i still believe in the team until the buzzer sounds. nothing like a comeback story for the history books.

regardless of what happens, we will need money to do what we need to do in order to keep players and get new ones. that requirement only gets more important each year no matter who's coaching.

Replacing Pat Summit has been VERY DIFFICULT so far...

Heck getting someone even close to her and being competitive is a challenge.

The money people made the decision that NIL was wasted in Harper’s hands. Then Caldwell got some of the baseball team’s money. Clearly a bad choice. The money people made - not White - have the next move.

Lady vols do not deserve to be in NCAA basketball tournament. You should reward teams with a good season not seven loses in a row. UT will lose first game and be an embarrassment to the university if they get in. Please NCAA put teams in the tournament that deserve to be in and reward the teams that play their way in.

The only way the LV's don't get into the NCAA tournament is if the committee weighs the end of season results way more than the entire season. It's not that the entire season results were great, they weren't. However, the situation is that a team doesn't have to be great to make a 64 team tournament. In fact, it barely has to be good.

IMO just mine I know there's a litany of opinions but when the season started. I looked at the team and thought talent wise in SEC, they were somewhere between 5 thru 8. Then Ruby got ousted after disruptions through summer & right before season started. I adjusted that down to 6 thru 9. I think the games we lost that we should have won were A&M & Miss State and maybe Bama in SECT but we had bottomed out as 9th or lower by then. When I saw them play and when I saw Jersey & Nya play I adjusted it down to 8th or 9th talent wise. Then you add in there were no upper class leaders and one of the Leadership council members was K Wynn a bench warmer, who later quit. In hindsight they should have begged Strickland to stay she would have outplayed Wolf's numbers by a long shot. No leader on the court is something that's on the coaches, they know their players and it should have been paramount to go out and get a player with known leadership even if they were just a hustler that had at least 1 good option 3 or rebounding or aggressive D. After watching this team at NC State without Ruby I started to waiver that they had young potential talent but upper classmen a couple of good players but all with low basketball IQs. Then I saw UCLA/ UCONN/South Carolina etal and then I thought back to what entered my mind after the NC State game. This team is about 7th,8th or 9th overall talent wise. By talentwise I mean their play, their attitude, their basketball IQ and their hustle want to. This is on the coaches when you know you got a player like Coop who is good but not a floor leader. Then you go out and get a good player, with a bad body language & attitude game to game and Nya was at least a hustler bad on D a streaky 3 point shooter from game to game and Wolf which was a nothing burger and keeping Strickland would have helped this team vs paying Wolf.
So, the OP's ? was "what's going on with this team".
What's going on with this team is they finished right were they should talent wise and that's on the coaches they failed miserably in the portal knowing they had young freshmen that needed peer leadership and they got 3 that were basically opposites.

Idk what message board or what fan base posts you’re reading but this team has gotten everything BUT a free pass lol. They’ve been drug thru the mud by former players, by media, by social media. & have they deserved some of it it? Yes. Their performances definitely have. But it’s wild to me that some of the LVFLs are doing so much hang wringing of these players & this staff. Isn’t this program known for being a family? The alumni are supposed to be the adults in the room & be helpful & not just sit around on social media & **** on the team week in & week out. It’s been a rough year for all involved for reasons I’m sure we may never quite know about. Everyone always talks about Pat & what she would want from her former players .. I guarantee she wouldn’t want them saying so many disparaging things about these kids. (Now they are getting paid & should be held accountable, certainly) but it’s taken on a whole new life outside those walls.

I agree. I've read all of it on this site and agree with a lot of it . Couple of bad apples can ruin the whole bushel and it did. Yes it's the coaches job to keep everyone in line but even the best can't handle it once it gets out of hand. It's happened to many coaches but rarely at this scale. With the transfers you don't have enough time to really vet players as well as you might. Your looking first for your needs and then interest along with how much it's worth. That's why one more year is probably needed to get a real feeling of what the coach can accomplish. Now IMO the hockey subbing and full court trapping press isn't going to work out. Hopefully she looks at all the games data and makes wise decisions.

Yep, in this P4 world it would take exceptional athletes to do the same thing every game and come out on top against the SEC upper crust. Yes if you had superior athletes that were conditioned it would work. Guess what we don't have superior athletes vs our top SEC competitors. We have some that are, in certain aspects but every team in the SEC has at least 1 of those special athletes and 4 teams have 3 and more special athletes.
In DII and even at Marshall they faced teams that didn't have the money and personnel to scout teams thoroughly, ergo the surprise element was there. In the SEC every team has someone working to prepare the team for opponents game trends. many games ahead of time. So the surprise element in the SEC minus the OOC pre-SEC games is gone. I was pulling for this to work but the SEC is just to athlete heavy for it to work from start to stop. IMO you keep it but just use it on certain teams and certain times in a game as a surprise, it worked on some SEC teams like Missouri and Arkansas (athlete thingy). I think over the summer they are going to have to add in some more D sets to compete. If you want to keep the subbing and full court do it on certain teams and maybe spring it at a surprise moment at the start of quarter, that's the only way it will work at this scale just using it sparingly as a surprise element. These teams are too good to know what D they are going to face game in and game out by looking at last years game and nothing has changed. They just look at the last game and say their still running it from start to stop. OK pull out last years game and mull over it.

I think it could still work but you have to have the high basketball IQ kids & high effort athletes to accomplish it & that’s gonna be hard to find during this day & time. The system does need to be tweaked a bit more but she has changed some things. I just think it’s hard to judge this system fully without seeing the players actually committing to it fully.

Oh I agree. It's going be hard to get that many players the caliber you need on one team. The transfer portal has just made it so much harder to keep players and grow them in your system. When you have to acquire 5-8 players every year and get them to mesh together.

Wonder what the Lady Vols BB team is doing, while they wait on the Tournie selection?

I suggest a total team lock down in 1 room with sleeping bags, bout several 80" tv screens showing last 10 games films. with player lead discussions every 30 min. Let door dash deliver groceries. So they can consentrate on who they are, and whats the expectation is. Loosing games is part of life, however make them beat you.

This will all take care of itself next year, no need to worry. If Caldwell is still the coach (and she will be), we won’t make it. I’m fully expecting next year to look similar to Mike Neighbors last year at Arkansas. I bet we return 2 players max from this year’s team. We will be lucky to win 4 SEC games next year. If we all could just accept this, it would be easier for all of us. I would love to be wrong but I was at the SEC tournament this weekend and heard LOTS from people close to the program. It’s not good.

To quote another poster, exactly how many times do you ask a kid to run into a wall? Is the problem really that they aren’t running into the wall hard enough?
SEC coaches can break this press with ease and score layup after layup. There is a reason teams are scoring at a 60% rate against us.
There is no cohesion when you are subbed out every two minutes.
Unfortunately I believe CKC’s solution next year will be to double down on her system. She will say that she got away from it too much and that was the problem. At this point her inexperience is painfully obvious. I’m really beginning to believe she doesn’t know any other system. Pick and roll, back door cuts, motion offense, did we see any of this? How about defense? Did we see any in game adjustments? What exactly is our defensive calling card?
Finally is there any team culture that the team can rest on when adversity strikes? I have seen zero emotional connection between CKC and her players.
I died on the hill for Kellie, I won’t for CKC. DW needs to take some action now.
