Quick story but need to show my mom. :)

I had to go to the PGA Show the week before last and I decided to take the family (wife and kids) as well as my mother who came down from Bristol to travel with us. The reason I took my family is because my bother has a place in Tampa and my mother was going to stay there with our kids and visit with my Brothers family.

Note: None are football fans as I was the only one in the family that grew up liking football. Not even my dad was.

Anyways my little boy leaves his best friend. Billy the dog that he always sleeps with (just turned 5). Not a big deal as he isn't overly attached but he does play with Billy a lot.

My mom and Brother take him to Build a Bear and let him choose what he wants just to be nice. Well he picks a Gator Doll and my Brother thinks its kinda funny to put the Florida shirt on him.

When I get back from the show my mother couldn't wait to show me the new Doll they got Christian.

First thing I said was that my son will not leave Florida with that Doll. I also explained that if we did take it home with us, it would end up headless. My mother was very upset about the situation and told me that I was a Dictator. :hi:

After everyone was mad at me for about half a day (except my wife and daughter who knew better :p) I explained to them that no matter how mad they got that stupid gator will die a slow death if they force me to take it. The fact that it cost $53 made it worse but I put the money on the table as a gesture to pay for it.

Long story short they finally realized that even a Gator fan wouldn't take Smokey and let their kid carry him around.

Note: The Doll was sent to a friend that is a Gator Fan and they Just had a Baby yesterday. I guess it worked out.

What would you do?

If in the wrong forum. Sorry!

I'm pretty sure most of us would have done the same thing. However, I am a little torn here... Part of me would want to burn the thing, the other would have to understand that the kid picked it out and it was a gift from Grandma. It would have also been a good way to teach the kid a lesson as he grows up... Every time he plays with it, you teach him that "we don't like gators 'round here", then eventually, he would burn the thing himself. Would be his right-of-passage as a Vol Fan.

Honestly, though, you probably did make a bigger deal out it than it had to be.

I would have taken it home and then I would have "lost" it.

That way you save your money and there's no family tension. Life's to short to stress out over a child's toy.

You should be very thankful.

Clearly, your son is gifted and will go on to do great things.

You should have taken it home and placed it in the bathroom by the toilet paper........make sure there's nothing left on the current roll first.

But, your choice wasn't a bad 2nd

My mother-in-law bought our son a Barney doll & a "Ice Dragon". After I taught him how to drop kick Barney, both dolls mysteriously vanished.

After reading it I should say that everything I said was in a funny and nice manner. My mom was the upset one. I chuckled about it to her because I knew it wasn't coming with us. She eventually got upset after she realized I was serious.

My wife suggested this but I had already told mom it wasn't coming with us.

I guess I spoke too soon.

Put the money on the table, behead the bear, throw it in the trash in front of the whole family as an illustration of what happens to infidels that buy stupid Gator items. Then tell them to have a nice day, mark them off the Christmas list, and load the family up for the trip home.

Too strong?

This is how I would have handled it. Non-Fans are pretty clueless when it comes to such things, and if you make it a big deal, they will know it is a button they can push to make you angry. Nobody Trolls like family.

I would have done the same. EVERYONE in my family knows better than to get my 2 yr. old son anything that has to do with alligators or elephants. This is why my son has as much orange and white in his wardrobe as I do. Start 'em early...VFL.

I'm with you on this.

My son has been slapping any pictures in books of gators and elephants since he was about 8 months. Now he follows that up with stinky gator or stinky bamer.

He wears the clothes, knows which team to cheer for on TV but doesn't know anything about rivals. Yet!

Now my Daughter did try to warn them by telling them "it might not be a good idea to buy him a Gator" when this crime was taking place but they didn't harken to her words. Little Miss Michaela (11yo) had a grin from ear to ear when I seen it. She knew what I was going to say.

I'd decapitate it and send its extremities to the four corners of Earth, skewered on a wooden stake and placed high on a pedestal for the world to see as a warning of what happens when they cross enemy lines into the Rocky Top Nation.

But that's just me.... :whistling:

You should have trained your mother to know better.

I don't know how she missed it. My Christmas presents were always Vols Gear.

I guess its that I never spoke about rival teams all that much.

That was my fault. :mf_surrender:

My brother is a big Bama fan (mom droped him on his head as a baby) so as an act of kindness, I have started a college fund for my niece to go to UT and have been loading her up with UT swag and toys since birth. She loves the stuff but my dolt of a brother keeps getting rid of it.

She gets so mad at HIM because he takes the stuff away from her. All's fair in love and fandom!!!!
