How long guaranteed to him? 4 years? Anyone know the details.

Thanks in advance. I am just trying to think of the options we have.

Terms: "Go better than .500 or we'll demote you to Tennessee's attorney general and burn your matresses."

Dooley would have to pay $4 million if he
resigns before Feb. 15, 2012, a number that drops to $3 million through
the next year. He would pay $1 million to buy out his contract starting
Feb. 16, 2013, $750,000 a year later, and $500,000 in 2015.

Tennessee's buyout to get rid of Dooley is
even steeper. He would be owed $5 million through Feb. 15, 2013, a
number that drops to $4 million into 2014 and 2015. The buyout falls to
$2.5 million after Feb. 15, 2015.

Dooley might not have come without being offered a lot of money and a huge buyout. He really took a no-win job.

To be honest, halfway through the Akron game I was thinking we needed a new coach. Now, I'm back to my original stance that we should know at the end of the season.

I like Dooley, and I feel bad for him. He's pulled in some great recruiting classes considering the circumstances. If he's fired at the end of the year, I will be appreciative of him coming here and taking an absolute crap roster and building the depth back up. He was able to pull Hunter and Rogers in his first class, and brought in guys like Aj Johnson, Curt Maggitt and McCullers, to name a few. These are great guys to have at their respective positions.

I don't know who we could get to come here, but I do think a home run hire is probable. No matter what happens, I do like the outlook of being a Vol fan.

The terms of this contract for an unproven coach with a losing record in a lower-tier conference is just insanity. It shows how out of touch with reality Hamilton was. Either that or he wanted to give UT a final screw as a parting gift. And we had to pay him six figures to leave! Kudos to Dooley for negotiating such an advantageous contract while more than quadrupling his salary and making himself a rich man. He may or may not make it as a coach, but he's a hell of a lawyer.

The sad thing is he was probably the best of the group that would take the job.

He's a bad gameday coach but at least he's gotten some spackling of talent here.

It was terrible timing. We were just a week before NSD, and coaches were too busy to talk to us right then. We made a strategic error by not naming an interim to hold the class together and regrouping with a more advantageous timeline. While the hire might have been questionable, the contract is inexcusable. I'm sure Dooley was surprised that a school like UT would agree to those terms. We blinked. Unbelievable, really.

That is what all this boils down to in the end. We will owe the man 5 million to walk away. We could give him 2 more years and lose another 15 games or more and still owe him 4 million. It's time to just deal with it and hire a new coach. There is no way in the world that 2 more seasons of losing does not justify paying the extra million now. As someone posted in another thread 25,000empty seats at 1 game is 1.25 million. Losing costs alot more than replacing coaches.

Kobe Bryant with his 50 / 50 pre - nup had a better deal than we have with Dools. He got us by the jewels. Thanks Hammy!

you guys are ridiculous!!!! Dooley negotiated a solid contract without even realizing how bare the cupboards really were. He stepped in and negotiated 3 years of rebuilding, with the opportunity of 2 years of success.

At one point you call him a horrible coach, but the man has been trying to get it done anyway he possibly can. Remember, this is the first time they had a full roster. Talent isn't there yet. I mean hell up until last week we were starting Teague. He absolutely sucked. youth and experience is building. the more you ***** and whine the more recruits look at you and imagine the rest of our fans.:cray:

This team is getting better even in the running game. and for the record, Neal should not be the starter, he runs scared. But even he is improving.

You guys whine about someone coaches who just got here last spring for things that take years to implement (defense), When dooley removes dead weight from the staff you ***** about that.

Will you ever be happy:banghead2:

You can massage it, rub it, caress it, and spit shine it. You can do all of these things and the TURD will still be a TURD. Yes, I just called Dooley a Turd.

Well, the good news is hammy's first shtty contract, rewarding Fulmer for mediocrity, is at its end.

His second shtty contract however, isn't.

Trying to get to the top of the SEC has never been harder than it is today. We have 6 of the national championships between 4 schools. Try recruiting against that. CDD was the best hire for the money at the time. Notice I said "for the money". If Hammy wanted to get a big fish hire, he should have paid the $5 million to get one. And you can't tell me that no "big name" coach would not come here for 5 mil. Or another way would be to offer, say, Gruden for example, 10 million. Hire his coaches and pay them from that 10 million and he keeps the rest. If you want big results, you gotta pay big money.
