1. Both Florida State and Miami look like the real deal at this point of the season. This should suck some talent from UF in upcoming seasons.

2. It looked to me like Florida's defense was overrated last year. They ended up with good stats in what was a horrific year in the SEC offensively. This year the SEC looks to have a few resurgent offenses, and a team with a strong running game and a decent passing game should give them fits.

3. The offensive line looked much better than they did against UCLA. Cautiously optimistic about the rest of the season.

4. The kid can coach. The offensive game plan was as good as we could legitimately have expected. If Crompton is able to complete a couple downfield passes to open up the run game, the team is going to be dangerous.

5. Despite what I said in #2, the Tennessee defense is for real. While I still think that last year's #3 ranking was due in part to playing lousy offenses, this year's squad was able to give the gators (a legitimate offense) all they wanted. (And of course, 3rd down D is vastly improved.)

6. This team is going to cause turnovers. UCLA escaped by recovering 6 fumbles. Tennessee forced Tebow to fumble and intercepted him. In future games, I expect to win the turnover battle every game (Crompton willing.)

7. This team is headed in the right direction!

Miami has the toughest schedule I think I've ever seen. If they go 3-0 then they will be top-5 after that.

Not sure I agree with #2. SEC offenses look equally lethargic this year.

#3, agreed. Need to build up JC's confidence gently, but quickly. This UF game helped, I hope.

#4, agreed. We competed with a team that had much more talent and kept it close. I didn't think the game was over until the last JC interception.

Re: UT's defense, Eric Berry is the real deal. Amazing player. And yes, UT is headed in the right direction.

Things we learned form this weekend. Tennessee isn't as bad as everyone thought and Florida can forget another BCS title, its not happening.

In my first post I was just going by gut feeling, so I looked up the final stats. Here they are.

Rank Team
15 Florida
22 Georgia
29 Ole Miss
49 Arkansas
55 LSU
63 Bama
97 South Carolina
104 Auburn
106 Kentucky
113 Miss State
115 UT
117 Vandy

SEC Offensive NCAA Rankings (2008 Final) : SEC Sports, SEC Football, SEC Basketball, SEC Baseball, SEC Blog

Bama looks better, Auburn looks better, SC looks better, UT is going to be better, and LSU doesn't have that pick-6 throwing QB this year (do they?)

I don't know, SKoreaVol, only UF and UGA have top-25 offenses. After that, the vast majority are below the top-50 and 5 are out of the top-100. With UT, SC, Auburn and Bama far outside the top half of offensive stats, I don't think the SEC teams looks particularly threatening to UF. Not that we can't compete, but we don't seem that scary. Maybe it is an improvement on last year, but I don't see enough of a "resurgence" in SEC offenses to support the idea that UF will struggle to defend against other SEC offenses. If UF allows their opponents more offense, I think it will be because of some losses to their defensive line, not because of stronger opposing offenses.

What we learned is that we still need a QB. Crompton did not lose this game but he sure did not help us win.

Those are last year's stats. That's why I said the offenses should be better this year.

I may get a lot of crap for this next statement, but I hope UF DOES play in the NC game. I am a UT fan first, an SEC fan next. It makes us, as a conference, look much better when we have a team playing in the "big one". Some of their fans are obnoxious, but some of ours are too. Wouldn't it look a lot better for UF to play say, Texas in the NC game and beat them 30 - 3? Wouldn't that make us look better that we stayed within 10 points? I'm pulling for them to have a great year this year. Another poster said also that FSU and the U are coming on stronger and they will take some recruits from UF. That's true, so will we. So let them have their NC this year..........the SEC could use the pub.

No crap from me. It's your opinion. However, i will never, ever pull for the gators to ever win a single game again. I did that last year. Watched the NC game and pulled for them. All i learned was that it encourages the "we are all world mentality." It is also why there are so many gator slime buckets around here. Not the few responsible fans that show up but the whole Troll Patrol.

I say let them lose forever and send 1/2 of their fans back to FSwho and Slimami and let them go into the pages of obscurity. I want teams to schedule Florida as home openers or homecoming games. Cupcake seems so fitting for them. :hi:

I will pull for the Gators outside the conference and against Bama. I would never pull for Bama no matter what.

Florida might look like they stumbled a bit yesterday and, I too keep thinking their chances are spiralling. They have a darn good QB for the college game. Don't forget all the top ten poll teams have dropped like flied this first three weeks.
