You're telling me we can open up the checkbook to hire one of the "best" ADs in the country for a dumpster fire of a program and, yet, I'm supposed to believe they can't do the same for a football coach, leaving us to pay 6 figures for a searching firm and ending in hiring the coach he just had at his old program? A coach, mind you, no one else was interested in hiring and their fans are quite happy he's gone.

Yeah, I don't buy they couldn't find anyone else. Not for one second. Maybe you don't get a slam dunk, but there are plenty of coaches who would be willing to go for $6 million a year whom aren't regressing in their job. So, what are we getting out of White? A coach no other program was remotely interested in hiring?

I'll never say I'm out, but why should I care, at this point? This is the laziest hire I've ever seen. I could have made it from my living room. We weren't exactly in a bidding war for the dude. Nothing signals to me, as a fan, we are serious about getting back into the mix in the conference. And, don't sell me we aren't the great job we think it is. It absolutely is better than the one we've been accepting for the last decade.

Face the facts: UT is clearly behind Bama, UGA, UF, LSU, and A&M in our own conference.

I would argue Auburn is a better job that UT right now, but regardless, what stud coach is lining up to take over the 6th best job in the toughest conference with a weak in-state recruiting base in comparison to the other top 5 mentioned? Oh yeah, and one that has potential NCAA sanctions forthcoming.

I'm just utterly shocked we didn't have people begging for this job......

From all reports, he tried to money-whip the big time coaches and they all said no. This is as good of a hire as we could reasonably expect with the looming penalties. If his offense works here, he will make the program better, which is more than anyone can say about the last 4 coaches. I'm pleased with the hire, not over the moon. If he can hire a solid staff, I will get excited.

To get rid of a buffoon known as Fulmer.

Which is well and good, but we paid top dollar for this guy. What are we getting in return which we wouldn't by a cheaper, more middle of the road type? As pointed out above, he spent six figures to hire the guy he already hired once and nobody else wanted. If we're paying for quality shouldn't we get quality in return?

Right. It was a setup from the get go. White conspired with his old coach knowing he would hire him at Tennessee so they could both fatten their bank accounts. The day White was hired Heupal was a forgone conclusion. They set that plan in motion and pulled it off to perfection. I'm sure they're high 5'ing in the office right now.

These are all just rationalizations. White is supposed to be a top 5 AD in the country and still came to deal with this mess after being thrown a bunch of money. I don't buy for a second Heupel is the ceiling if you are willing to do what you did with White.

You're absolutely right! I expected a Saban hire. I cannot believe people didn't want to come into this toxicity! Let's rampage and rush the Hill!!!!
No one expected a Saban hire good lord I have no idea why you people bring him up so often. Many of you are blind and will always support the coach no matter what. You same people loved Dooley, Jones and Pruitt

I dont think UT, Danny White, or Coach Huey care what you buy or what you believe. They do their thing and you do yours.
If you need elite as a fan, your choices are Bama, Clemson, and tOSU.

So, there's no step between Saban and Heupel in terms of coaching levels? If you are going to use the blue font to show sarcasm and mock people, at least don't make a completely idiotic exaggeration while doing it.

They aren't rationalizations, they are realities. Huge difference.

We threw around 5 years and 40 million dollars and we couldn't get the big boys interested to coach this dumpster fire. So yes, I absolutely believe this was the best we could do. Truth hurts, but this isn't a great job right now.

White won't be judged by this football hire at all given the circumstances surrounding it and the timing. He will be judged by how he navigates us through the NCAA mess and the hire after this one.

Actually I'm just calling out your ridiculous assumption that White is an idiot because Heupel wasn't some big, flashy hire everyone, including me, expected him to bring. Instead, he was told no, supposedly, by several people and thus settled on, from the looks of things, a very successful coach. Considering we could have gone with a never-been HC or a Sonny Dykes type hire, yea I will support this guy.

early reports White said he had a coach ready to go, is anyone shocked it was Heupel?
