What was Chaney's Game-plan?

Fulmer's fingerprints are all over the offense, from playing the OL at multiple positions from one drive to the next to inane 3rd and long passes to the flat that have no shot of succeeding.

I suspect the understanding when the hire took place was that we were going back to 1998 style offense.
Will Best Friend is calling the plays

His plan is as follows, eat, call play, eat, call play, eat, call same play 3 times in a row, eat, eat ,eat, punt, eat while D gets steamrolled. Oh crap we have the ball again, repeat previous steps.

After watching Jim Chaney call offenses for the last 10 years I am convinced he is being over ruled on play calling this season. He has never been this conservative historically.

This. Chaney has his hands tied behind his back because (1) he doesn't have a quarterback and (2) because Gump is micromanaging the offense. Jim Chaney is one of several good assistant coaches on this staff that I think are being micromanaged.

Here is a point I have not seen discussed. Chaney did not bring in his assistant coaches. He is using who CJP had already hired.

Makes no difference, Chaney calls the plays, he is ultimately responsible for the offense !!!!!!!!!! Cannot make it any plainer !!

Pruitt may have him handcuffed. Not defending Chaney as he has been horrible at play calling this season but there may be fundamental differences between him and Pruitt on what to do. Pruitt is run run run and Chaney is pass pass and pass some more. I think they are butting heads and the offense is paying the price.

I don't care what anyone on this site says..............................the problem is not Pruitt, it is Jim Chaney. Georgia fans thank God that Chaney left. I have said since his initial hire he is without a doubt the worst OC in the SEC. I stand by this statement 100%. This game has left him years ago. His offense is totally antique, predictable, mellow and all the other words that fail me right now. Just look at his running plays in the second half. 99 % were off tackle right and off tackle left. Total BS ! no throwing to the backs out of the backfield, no toss sweeps, no miss directions, just molded over Purdue offensive of 30 years ago. I am about through watching my Vols after about 60 years of watching them until Chaney is told to hit the door. Congratulations to The Razorbacks ,they flat out coahed us ,and beat us the second half in ever aspect of the game. Look at our defense............a total of about 4 quarterback sacks in the last 5 min of the game. Why didn't this happen the entire game. Something must be done and the only hope we have to salvage this season is to beat Vandy. And that is definitely not a given. A totally disgusted Vol fan !!!...............................CHANEY SUCKS !
AS A GRADUATE OF UTM I WOULD PROTEST IF HE WERE HIRED AT UTM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND YES, GIVE ME ENOUGH TIME AND I WILL TELL YALL HOW I REALLY FEEL !!!!

Chaney is a problem, but Pruitt is an even bigger problem IMO. Don’t let him off the hook.

The plan was clearly to minimize JGs role through a 90% running-play gameplan.

That worked until Arky figured out we were never going to throw, and put everyone including the waterboy and the sideline reporter in the box.

We never adjusted to that. BM goes in, hands off 3 times, and is done. HB comes in cold when we were already down 2 scores, and Beldar finished that off by stupidly NOT kicking the FG on a night when Cimaglia was clearly "in the zone."

Other than that, it worked great!

Apperantly Pruitt looks out on the field at Eric Gray and sees Derrick Henry. Run it between the tackles Jim, again, again, again, again. Send in the back up QBs. Run it between the tackles Jim, again, again, again.....has the game clock expired yet? Good , head to the lockers.

A lot of folks on here blasting CJP--understandable....

But I'm just wondering why in the "working like heck" didn't Chaney make adjustments to take advantage of Arkansas' defensive scheme in the 2nd half?

I mean it was OBVIOUS that Arkansas changed their defensive plan in the 2nd half to stop our run and force us into being one-dimensional on offense and that stupid, overpaid, empty-headed idiot just kept running the ball into the teeth of a defense that was slanting to our strong side and that had walked up 10 players to within 6 yards of the LOS with a 1-high Safety--who was only playing 10 yards off the ball!

Bootlegs, misdirection, screens, slants, and running your TE down the seams all were wide open patterns and you have to give your players a chance to take advantage of
the opportunities that present themselves. And why isn't Chaney running the "bunch" formation and dragging those guys across the face of the LBs while he runs the RB out into the flat behind them to create some opportunities for big plays if they don't want to throw the ball down the field.

Our Defense actually played their asses off tonight--and made enough stops in the 2nd half to provide the offense with multiple chances to get us back in the game!

The last I have heard--CJP DOESN'T CALL THE OFFENSIVE PLAYS!

You can correct me on that point if I'm wrong here.
I mean--Chaney running 4 verticals on 3rd and 6 is just danged stupid.

And how come that 1.8 million dollar OC failed to throw the ball to Gray out of the backfield on 1st or 2nd downs in the 2nd half when Arky made it
CLEAR that they weren't gonna allow us to run the ball anymore?

I don't care what you think about Pruitt--unless you can prove to me that he's RIDIN' HERD on CHANEY---that loss to Arky weighs heavy on Chaney's shoulders!

And, YES, I heard CJP's STUPID REASON for not kicking the FG late in the 4th while down by 11.
He said we were out of range---but NO, that is certainly NOT TRUE!

Cimaglia had already kicked a 50 yarder with some room to spare, and I think it was 4th and 4 at Arky's 29 or 30 yard line.
Just plain stupid.

And I don't know what's happened to Maurer--but it's obvious that he's an empty-headed and clueless out there.
Psychiatric meds can do that to people--no criticism here for that, but it's obvious that he's completely LOST.

THE ONLY option we have is to give BAILEY 100% of the reps in practice to get him ready for the games and let JG come off the bench in relief for the rest of the season.
I can't see us beating anyone left on our schedule except maybe Vandy.

GO VOLS!

I lay it all on pruitt, this is not chaneys offense, its pruitts. Just look at the facts, chaneys past success, and the offense he is calling now, its not chaneys but pruitts. Demote pruitt to dc, chaney to hc, and i think u see a huge change for the better

Have the NCAA/SEC investigate Chaney. He is playing the Vegas odds. Nobody making that much money is that dumb.

I remember reading an article where Chaney was saying that Harrison Bailey was slower on the plays he couldn’t grasp yet. Maybe Maurer is the same. And possibly JG is the same too. Basically, as an OC you only want to call plays you know QB is at least comfortable with. That’s what I think is going on. All 3 QBs play a different style
Good coaches can teach their system. I don't think Chaney is all he was cracked up to be. Football is not rocket science so coaches need to quit acting like it is. It's not possible that none of the QBs on this team can't pick up the offense.
