what visitor....

Dante Phillips

Really Big Deal for him to visit.... Vol Quest reported earlier that when UF denied him entry (WTF?) after the NCAA cleared him, he needs to sign someplace new NOW. He is eligible to join practice tomorrow, and we are one of only a couple of schools with room for him.... could be HUGE.

Do the coaches have the ability to work him out to see what he can do and how good of shape is he in? O would that be a violation?

Not sure, also not sure why the coaches would feel the need to. He was in good shape at the Army All American game, and considering he was assuming he could enroll at florida a couple of weeks ago I would assume that he stayed in good shape.

I'm sure they've watched plenty of film on him, but I know most coaches want to see them up close and personal to really get a feel on what the player's abilities are. And I highly doubt the coaches would be satisfied just assuming he's in good shape.

Why would you highly doubt that? He will be a true freshman, and is one of the top defensive lineman in his class. Even if he is out of shape, we could let him use his redshirt year to get in shape and still have four years to play. The type of shape he is in is irrellevant, because we would not turn a player of his caliber away. Should we have gotten rid of Mo Couch when he showed up out of shape last year? No. Also, there is no reason to think that he is in any worse shape then any of our other 2012 signees at this point.

I never said they should turn him down if he was out of shape. But if they have the option of working him out, why wouldn't they? If they didn't recruit him much last year, they probably don't have a thorough evaluation for him.

I want this guy for the mere fact that he would want to show out against the gators! A little mean streak in a body his size would be a sight to see.

Would we miss the open scholly though if he signs with us?

blaming UF for him f'up in the classroom. The kid knew what grades he needed to get into UF and decided not to do his part so now he wants to blame it on UF.

HG, no offense, but I wouldn't really care about who's fault it was if we could pull him in. He would help us out immediately; of course, that is "if" he can actually get into school. I do hate to see kids blame others for their own issues; even if it is Florida. :)

Why was he rejected by the gators?????

Read this:
Report: Phillips Visiting Tennessee - Rocky Top Talk

I heard an interview with a Florida sportswriter (not sure, but may have been Robbie Andrieu) say that UF and Vandy are the only 2 schools in the SEC that take the combined average grade for HS classes that are re-taken. Writer went on to say that Spurrier griped about this when he was at UF.

So if a student received an F (1st time) then C (2nd time), the average is a D and the grade may not qualify.

The other 10 schools in SEC (not sure about Mizzou or A&M) do not use the combined average, only the best grade received for the class that was re-taken.

Whatever, I heard Muschamp was trying to teach all the new recruits how to Dusky. Plus, given your "blaming UF for him f'up in the classroom" I can't imagine scholorship is very important to FU fans. I hope he plays for UT and punishes gator trash every year for 4 years.

I hope he gets denied by every SEC school and has only WK or WVU as a option...since he can't man up to his mistake. Kid has a ton of talent but he thought he could f'up and still be rewarded.

I hear ya, I hate when high school seniors make mistakes. The only way i can get over it is to talk smack about them on the internet.

/sarcasm

In addition when you find yourself reacting like this to the actions of a high school kid, take a couple weeks off from recruiting news because you're in too deep.

Let's hope the young man has learned and works harder in the classroom and if decides to sign with the Vols he can be a great player for us....
