What type of money would we need to come up with NIL money to entice Chandler to stay another year?

It's a NBA contract (which is nothing like an NFL contract) KC would be stupid to take a 1 year equivalent amount since 1st round NBA rookie contracts are guaranteed for four years. It would take nothing less than $8m to match that kind of guarantee in order cover career ending injury during extra year at UT.

First round contracts are two years guaranteed with the second two years being team options. Most teams do pick up the options as the contracts are peanuts compared to other players. However, technically, they aren’t four years guaranteed.

However, neither Keon nor Springer may get that heralded second contract.
They're pretty much at the mercy of their teams, based on what the team needs and how they develop talent. 76ers haven't been playing their young guys and it's annoying their fans.

Portland is tanking and Keon had been playing some lately, 23 minutes last game. They are tanking so much that Brandon Willams, the 3rd string PG played well and they beat Detroit, so they benched him the next game and started a washed up Kris Dunn.

Point is neither are developing enough to merit the second contract - at least on their current trajectory. Both would have benefited from another year in college to improve their respective games. Improvement in their games would have likely resulted in a better draft position and more money.

Chandler's path to starting in the NBA isn't going to be improved by playing here vs playing in the actual NBA. He's either going to be skilled enough to play there or he's not. A second year here playing 35 games in a college system won't do for him what 82 games plus summer league will do for him, if he goes to the NBA.

Your second point is absurd. No one cares about Michael Jordan because of what he did at North Carolina except for North Carolina fans. His legacy was written in the NBA. Same with Larry Bird, Magic Johnson and even Bernard King. We love King for what he did here. His most known and important basketball legacy is his dominant scoring and MVP level play in New York.

Pete Maravich is probably the only player I can think of with a huge legacy based almost entirely around his play in college. When your dad is the coach and you get to shoot 90 percent of your team's shots, it works that way.

This nails it. College legacies are primarily local issues, even for college players of the caliber of Jordan, Magic, Bird, and Jabbar. These guys are associated by the public with the NBA teams they helped win titles and got to the Hall of Fame playing for. Even Maravich, nationally, is more known for his stint with the Jazz than LSU, as college ball was entirely a regional sport in those days.

Regarding Chandler, he appears to be a mid-late 1st rounder on most boards. Staying in college for another year, even for big NIL money, carries with it far more risk than reward, which is limited to possibly raising his draft stock. The risks include regressing in performance, which would have the opposite effect on his stock, and worse of all an injury.

A first round contract and being one year closer to that all-important second contract, plus the ability to work on his game full time are things he would lose by staying here another year. As you said, how much more is his game going to develop in a college system as opposed to a full season with pro coaches?

Chandler was always going to be a one-and-done. It's time to move on and concentrate on the things that will continue the growth of the program - recruiting and the transfer portal.

Annoying the hell out of us. Springer is clearly a developmental project who has played very well overall in the G-League, but there are a couple of young bigs on the roster most fans would love to see get a real opportunity but is not happening due to the stubborness of our blockhead coach.

I can see Springer being attached in a trade this summer, but I'd love to see him get a shot here next year. the Harden acquisition and Maxey's meteoric rise may have lessened the chance of that happening.

Especially in Springer's case it's less about whether he's developing enough and more about whether his team is willing to test it.

They got Springer as a defensive specialist, I can't see why they wouldn't want to get him in on some of those Harden lineups, especially if they have him spend some time running the second unit. There are going to be plenty of times you want to reduce Harden's defensive load by having another guard take the bigger offensive threat -- Harden can stay more rested and he's much better as a help defender anyway.

Trust me, many of us have been screaming the exact same thing. Problem is that Rivers just doesn't like to play kids. Hell, the only reason Maxey broke out is because Simmons was a no-show and he had no other options. It's too late in the season now, but I would have loved to have seen Springer get some run earlier in the season, but that isn't Doc's way, and we're stuck with him for now. Springer has had some huge games in the G-League, and my guess is he'll be used as a trade as-on this summer.
