Two things seem confirmed today.

1. Butch Jones and his staff are hard workers who were able to get the ear of several big names (Bellamy, Bell, Lawson, etc...), and even land some players with great potential who we weren't in with before (North, Jenkins, Brown).

2. Until we get some W's, we will continue to whiff on players choosing between us and teams with recent national championships or undefeated seasons (Bama, tOSU, Auburn, etc...)

I think we've landed some very solid players.
But I'm worried about our defense.

This year - with one of the toughest schedules in the country - HAS TO BE a very solid season for us to compete in recruiting for 2014.

In short, we really didn't learn much of anything today that we didn't already know.

Let's get behind our commits and our team!
Go Vols!

Our fans has been behind this team for year and years of disappointments.

Its time this team, administration, and coaching staff got behind the fanbase and earned the respect that you want to give out so freely.

Play hard. Go to a bowl game. Win a game you shouldn't.

Our offense should be decent enough but I agree with you on defense. Could be another long year for them. I just want to see game by game improvement and a bowl bid God willing.

I think everyone prefers the sky is falling defense. Fans are going to have to learn quick fixes don't just come with a new coach who hasn't been on the job a year or coached one single game. Elite prospects will pay attention when we start winning more than losing. Butch needs to shoot for 6 or 7 wins and a bowl win---best case scenario for next season IMO!

Thanks for the incite. If you looked like Erin Andrews I would prolly give a Shhh. CBJ did an awesome job.

P.S. Vonn Bell can enjoy his butt whippin every time he steps on the field against an SEC team. Every accolade he gets will be prefaced with, yeah but he was playing in the Big 10.

Auburn disagrees and Ole Miss disagree.

You don't have to win games to recruit, you just have to do a great job recruiting. Butch and the "best staff in america" clearly didn't. He was able to flip a bunch of Big East players and hold on to some of Dooley's. It's disappointing any way you slice it.

I hope he and his staff are great a coaching them up, otherwise we are in for a long 3 years.

Not sayin this is the case, but Auburn has long been rumored for paying players. Accusations flying everywhere about Ole Miss is doing the same thing. It's hard not to question when you come from the shadows to top shelf.

I think our coach will be "shooting" to win every game.

We have known that about Auburn for years now. Ole Miss isn't the least bit surprising.

When the NCAA turns a blind eye to it, you gotta question why Tennessee isn't doing the same. What's the downside here?

If paying some kids off gets us to 8 wins next season, I am all for it.

Don't start this nonsense. Nobody is clean when it comes to recruiting. We're just simply not doing a good enough job recruiting.

Really? Have you been around this board for that period?

If this board is in any respect representative of the fanbase as a whole... then the fans have HARDLY been consistently supportive.

Its time this team, administration, and coaching staff got behind the fanbase and earned the respect that you want to give out so freely.
Nothing is given freely. The AD is been in position how long? He fired a guy he liked for failing to win. The HC has been in position how long?

I believe that Jones gets no more than 3 years. I don't believe that because it is necessarily the amount of time it may take but because I know this fanbase. Dooley took over a train wreck. Granted he proved he could not coach but you seriously had people even before UK saying he should be fired for not winning with the roster he inherited.

So I am pretty much resigned to the fact that UT will go through coaches every 3 years or maybe 2 until lightning strikes. Every change will set the program back some amount... but these "longsuffering" fans will get the satisfaction of seeing a failing coach fired.

Play hard. Go to a bowl game. Win a game you shouldn't.

I agree with this sentiment. I think it should be and will be how Jones and whoever follows him is judged. I am not that sure that it will be enough for this fanbase.

Spurrier took over a better situation at USCe... it took him more than 5 years to turn it around. Who would consider Spurrier a "big splash" hire? My point is even a good coach may need time to build a winner.

Yeah.

What today really means is that we're in for another 3 years or so of excuses. And we may all be dead by the time UT is relevant again.

i agree, i've already said i will never live to see tennessee win another SEC title it is a given.
