I am purchasing a new HDMI cable and am worried about price vs. quality. Will a cheap HDMI cable be fine or do I need to spend 120.00 dollars?

I think I racked up about $100 in cables last year (multiple HDMI cables, speaker wire, component cables). Probably saved a good $400-$500 over Best Buy. Their wall mounts are great and cheap as well.

We aren't talking analog signals here.

This past weekend I bought a $135 monster cable from circuit city and the picture quality was great. My wife, not knowing I had bought the cable, went to Wal-Mart and bought the $29 Phillips 3 ft HDMI cable. The picture quality of the cables are exactly the same. I returned the Monster cable and keep the Phillips. Buy the cheaper one, if you have a good tv it doesn't matter.

Great responses from all. Very interesting Chatt.

agree with the posts above. it's very similar to "gold plated" cables for regular cable. makes no difference that you will be ever able to notice.

Like I said, Fine, unless you have a 120Hz LCD or you're running cable through the wall, any cable will look and sound the same. The only difference between the cheaper ones and more expensive ones will be build quality, cheaper ones might crap out sooner... But I don't think that's too much to worry about.

If you have a 120Hz LCD, you have to have a HDMI 1.3/a/b cable. If you're doing in-wall, it's generally a good idea to have CL2 rated for insurance and durability purposes.
