I really think Kentucky is likely in at this point. They are guaranteed at least a .500 conference record and should get to 20 wins via the SEC tourney, at least.

A couple of hoops thoights.

First, last year the SEC was getting no love at end of regular season. And yet the conferenced produced two of the Final Four participants, the national champions, plus the champs of the NIT, to boot. Is the SEC underrated again this year and just beating up on itself? Or are we as mediocre (top to bottom) as we seem.

Right now, to me there are six teams out there that seem to have a legitmate shot, OSU, Wisc, Kansas, UCLA, Florida, and UNC. After that its just a mish mash of about 12 teams, any one of which on the right night could beat one of the main six, but who really would have to play a bit beyond themselves to do it.

I think Florida is in danger of falling out of that top six if they don't get out of this funk. I think UT is on the verge of working its way into that group of 12 if it can finish strong.

those are 4 solid locks....alabama will prolly find its way in too

i disagree, playing in a weak sec and not playing well as of late. we will see what happens for the rest of the year and in the tourney, but #1 seeds generally don't fall way behind to Vandy twice (losing once) and get smoked by the bottom team in their conference.

That being said, Florida is in as a 2 (as it stands)
Tennessee as a 7 or 8
Vandy as a 5 or 6
Kentucky as an 8 or 9
Alabama should sneak in as a 9 or 10
I think Ole Miss will make a decent showing in the SEC tourney they make it as a 9 or 10 assuming Miss. St. doesn't win it.
If Miss. St. wins they SEC tourney (long shot I know) they will make it as a 7 or 8, and Ole Miss is out, possibly taking Bama to the NIT with them

As long as Vandy's 1st round game isn't in Nashville, I'll take almost any 11 or 12 seed over them.

I think it is somewhere in between. Discounting Florida, whose recent slump notwithstanding is an elite team, everybody else in the conference ranges between fair and pretty good, with several variations in between. Any of the second tier teams has the athletic ability to be a tough win for anyone in the country, but I'm not sure any of them are consistently good enough to make a very deep run against tournament competition.

Its a snapshot of who is where. Right now, Florida has lost two of three. Wisconsin has lost its last two, but one of those was to OSU at OSU by a single bucket, so that's not a very bad loss. Whereas Florida lost to LSU, and looked pretty bad doing it.

Florida players have no one but themselves to blame for the current situation. Should they win tomorrow night and again against Kentuckly to close out the regular season and make it at least to semifinals of the SEC tourney, then in my opinion they have as good a claim to a #1 seed as anybody else, including OSU or Wisconsin.

If they lose tomorrow though (here's hoping we can pull it off) they HAVE TO win the SEC tourney to be a #1, I think the same about a win against Tennessee and a loss to Kentucky.

Vandy is better than you're giving them credit for.

LSU has the talent to play with anybody on a given night. Their shooting has doomed them, but they won't shoot poorly every night out. They have massively underachieved but are still dangerous with their athleticism and size, especially in their house.

Who has a better resume of those top 4 seeds? UCLA - probably. The rest? Ohio State, who just beat their first ranked team (unless you count the UT gift to them since UT was ranked at the time) has no business there. Wisconsin's resume looks a lot like that of OSU, except they were recently handled by MSU too. North Carolina - two losses to VT and yesterday to MD.

Actually, should Florida look good in going 1-1, making the conference finals might be good enough, depending on what the other potential #1s do. Should one of them suffer some setback or lose early in their respective tournaments, then Florida might still have an argument.

But as I say, I would not be feeling real good about it. The reality is that Florida is supposed to win these next two if it wants to be confident as it enters the tournament or lay claim to a 1 seed.

If they cannot do that, with a #1 seed clearly at stake, then I really don't think that Gator fans' focus ought to be on whining abuot seeding. If we can't win these games, then we have other problems that to me signal an early demise in the tournament.

Let's face facts. Nothing short of a Final Four berth is going to be acceptable for this team. They had to know that when they decided to stay and of course they have been annointed for a 1 seed for the entire season until today.

So, its time for them to grow up and perform. No one is going to jail if they don't. But if they don't, then they will not be viewed as having accomplished what was expected of them. Or of themselves. That's a lot of pressure. But they took it on and now is not the time to congratulate themselves for what they did last year at the expense of a 100 percent effort now, which is what I worry is going on.

I think NC gets a #1 by the grace of playing in a better conference. I think they will win the ACC tournament as well.

Kansas and Texas A&M I also believe are better teams, and if all goes right they should play in the Big 12 championship game, if everything holds up between now and then and it's a close game, I feel they have arguments for 1 seeds that are as strong as any.

That leaves us with UCLA, who unless something goes horribly wrong the rest of the season, will get a number 1 for, again, playing better basketball in a better conference.

I think Vandy is a good team, but top tier teams shouldn't be in a position to have to make a major comeback twice, to the same team, in the same season. At least not when the other team is not supposed to be on your level.

LSU has been attrocious in the conference season. They may be underachieving, but they were without Glen Davis for the Florida game, Florida (if they really are a top tier team) should have eaten them up inside all day, but they didn't.

RIGHT NOW, fla is a #2 seed. Yes they're 25-4 (i think?), but the NCAA commit. looks hard at the last ten games...and fla hasnt played well.

Espn is projecting Kentucky as a 5 seed, as is Vandy who didnt make your list.

i also feel that memphis can sneak in as a 1 if florida loses to either tennessee or kentucky

The ACC is a better conference, but only marginally. Top to bottom they're awfully comparable to the SEC.

Texas A&M is good but has beaten nobody. Kansas is too up and down to get there.

The three point line makes teams like Vandy viable, especially when looking at segments of the game as you are. On their floor, Vandy is far better than viable.

Florida vs. LSU - you're right. UF sucked and deserved to get hammered.

Still think UF's a #1. In fact, if they're a 2, I like for the streak of years when at least one 2 seed or below makes the final four to continue. They'll get the weakest 1 which will be the inferior team in their matchup.
