After a W Saturday, lets hope that things go well this weekend.
Overall, they are pretty confident.
Overall, they are pretty confident.
So Tenn gets 3 points home field, they feel we are 4 to 5 better, this is a game where we can point back to as a springboard
Hope it's not the kiss of death. Pitt favored on the road doesn't seem to happen too often, let alone an SEC opponent.
Hopefully the Johnny Majors Classic is good luck for them.
There have also been a Vol fan or 2 posting as wellThis game definitely has the chance to help the program take that next step. The last time I can recall winning a big non-conference road game like this (not counting Notre Dame) was Texas A&M. Hope they make the most of playing in a great atmosphere and bring home the win.
(Vol fan here) I think you guys win, and that seems to be the majority sentiment among Vol fans. Actually, I suspect you guys will probably win pretty big. We just don't have a reliable QB at the moment, and our defense is largely untested and will be missing its best player this week due to NCAA issues. If I were betting, I'd definitely take Pitt and the -1.5.
Anyway, good luck to you all. Hope you have a great season.
Pitt -1 on circa. I would never ever ever bet on Pitt.
We will always be in close games with our offense. This year we dont have a kicker yet either, so I am waiting on that loss or 2 from the kicking game, this may be the week. If you think we cant make an xp against UMass, what will our kicker do with 90k yelling at them?
I like the matchup solely because during the Narduzzi era our run defense has greatly improved and typically stops the run (7th last year) and Tennessee is built for the run this year. I think UT will move the ball on the ground, we will be missing not having Hamlin run stopping, and Weaver/Jones edge containing the jet sweeps, but I cant see UT sustaining that all game. On offense, we will need to have quick throws as I cant see our line stopping the rush. But our offense is built for that as well. We need to fake some quick outs, we throw that like 5 times a game, and other teams bite HARD on it. Pickett just never looks off, pump fakes, or disguises plays. He never has really, not sure if Whipple teaches that or not, but it is annoying to me
Didn’t this line start a week or two ago with Pitt as a slight dog?
Looks like the oddsmakers got a good look at Joe Milton since then.
I really like our chances here. Tenn. is not a passing team. That said, our safeties have always been guilty of coming to far forward on play action and don't forget the couple of coverage busts a game as well. Milton is far from a great passer but, if we leave guys running free he doesn't have to be. If we can play defense and limit those mistakes we should have enough to win a close game. Something like 29-25 seems in the neighborhood.
Someone thinks highly of the DLAgreed. On offense, I’m thinking it comes down to whether our offensive line can create some running lanes for the running backs. It’ll be a good challenge because, despite Tennessee’s on-the-field struggles, I’m assuming they’ll have plenty of linemen with “SEC” size and speed.
Depending on if we see them get blown off the line or not, it may be a good indicator of whether the struggles stem from the personnel or scheme.
I watched a little of the TN game and I just do not see our OL opening up running lanes against the TN DL. We are going to have to dink and dunk them to death! imho
I still am glad were getting back to thisWe're 26-24 over the past four seasons, and we just had six players drafted. I could see why the outside perception of us is what it is. None of those predictions are exactly oozing with confidence.
FWIW, I think we'll likely **** stomp Tennessee.
Very well possible if the QB cant hit the deep ball or receivers drop a lot of balls.full capacity no masks, welcome to TN for a hot nooner
Interesting W-L statWe are going to beat them by 10 points. Tennessee will struggle against our defense
Again, Pitt is like 4-15 in these OOC games vs P5 the last 20 years (not counting ND 4-9).
I think the only road win was 03 A&M?
Im gonna look up their offensive stats after this. They seem to be concerned about that and confident in their Dmore i watch these college football shows, the more i see very little respect or even acknowledgement for pitt outside of pitt fans. not saying we deserve it, just saying there is very little..
i was watching packer and durham this morning and they had a guy who covers Miami and they were going thru their schedule. they have virginia, unc and then nc state and he was saying that those 3 will decide if the U will have a 10 win season. packer and durham mentioned pitt the following week and he just kind of shrugged..
we arent on anyone's radar. hopefully that is a good thing..
Has Heupel coached against Pitt the last 2 years? It may bode well if he knows what does and doesnt work if true.Pitt lost guys but those returning still have experience. Like most any game under Narduzzi, a low scoring game benefits Pitt since we struggle to put up 30+. A talented and experienced D and a veteran QB hopefully swing it in Pitt’s favor.
Their OOC P5 games since 2003A road game at a SEC school is never easy. Pitt has the talent to win this game. Will Pitt be prepared for the atmosphere? Will Pitt's coaches not crumble? The Tennessee coach has played Pitt twice in the past 3 years. He knows us very well and they'll be prepared. This is his chance to get some revenge for the "Pitt Special".
They dont think highly of Milton. It's ugly for sure. I have it as 5-16 since 2003 (reg season).
A&M 1-0
VT (pre-ACC) 1-0
UVA (pre-ACC) 1-1
PSU 1-3
Iowa 1-3
Okla St 0-2
Mich St 0-2
Neb 0-2
Utah 0-2
NC St (pre-ACC) 0-1
Others of note:
ND 4-8
UCF 2-1
Navy 2-2
Bowl season also ugly - 2-8 (including non-P5 notables)
W - UNC pre-ACC 09, Kentucky 10
L - Virgina 03, Utah 04, Oregon St 08, SMU 11, Ole Miss 12, Houston 14, Navy 15, NW 16, Stanford 18
I know where my money will be...
Milton actually isn’t very athletic at all, his sample size is pretty large at this point and he’s never really shown the ability to run or pass the ball with any kind of sustained success.
The longer he stays in there the better it is for Pitt IMO, I would much rather go against him than Hooker.
Here is some thoughts about how they played UmassHe has big time arm strength, coaches get enamored with it. Lacks every other requirement for the QB job. Another example of how there’s a lot more to playing QB than a strong arm.
Easy win as expected. Lots of guys got PT and most importantly no injuries.
The negatives:
-quiet a few mental mistakes.
-kicking game (hopefully first game nerves).
-Drops, I counted at least 5. The dropped TD by Mack was bad.
-Yes I know we rushed for over 200 yards but IMO the OL needs to get more push vs Umass in the run game.
Some good Stuff. Sure it’s Umass but still good things:
-KP as expected was good. His numbers would have been far better if not for about 5 drops. He should have had 3 TD passes easily.
-We have TE’s!!! Not 1 but 2! Krull is going to be a big weapon over the middle. And the true frosh Gavin is going to be really good. He is a grown man. Nice steal by Salem from Buffalo.
-Despite some bad drops the WR core is deep. Barden with his speed should get more PT IMO. I know it was mop up time but Bradley looks big and talented.
-This is by far the deepest LB core we have had in years. Athletic and fast.
IMO this is good for the coaching staff. Easy win, but plenty that can be corrected this week. Looking forward to seeing Pitt go and get a win vs Tenn next week.
Glad Pitt FB is back. H2P!
O line still struggling when needing just 1 yard.
Play calling vanilla. Hope to see the go go against Tennessee.
A lot of self-inflicted mistakes for Pitt today preventing them from breaking open the game early on. They can clean this area up. The two biggest areas of concern for me was the lack of push in the ground game and the punt returners had no clue what to do when fielding the ball today.
There are a lot of playmakers on offense, just need to be more consistent. Pickett tended to take the deep shot down field or take the receiver over the sideline rather than hit open receivers across the middle.
It was great to see Pitt tight ends show up in the passing game and the defense was terrific, especially against the run. There were a few breakdowns in coverage, but that is just a part of the game. I loved seeing the defense flying around the field and play with energy. It's like they know they are good and are playing with that type of attitude. Hope it keeps up.
The main thing I took from this game, is that we are armed enough to go battle at Tennessee.
