Obviously I'm a bit late on this, as several threads have already been posted on VN about their message boards. But I figured I would wait until game week to post.
It wasn't easy to find much discussion about the game, but I certainly saw a lot more confidence than what the media thinks. They respect Dobbs/Hurd/Kamara, but they respect their own defense more. Without further ado, here's what the Northwestern faithful are saying about Saturday's matchup in a bowl they have no business playing in:
--------------------------------------------------------------
-Their lack of message board discussion really does reach comical levels. Here's the first 5 posts of a thread started by Vol fans to discuss the game:
a few more posts from that thread I thought were funny:
-There is a thread discussing our beat-up session against Iowa last year, but it seems to be mostly talk of how much Iowa has improved, and essentially we only beat them because they were a terrible team last year.
-There is a question from a UT fan on their boards asking what it would mean to their program to win this game. The responses were.... confident..... is the best word I can use to describe them.
-This was great. An Iowa fan posted on their board wishing them luck against us, saying for them to give us and the SEC a "black eye." This was a visiting Vol fans response:
-This was already covered in a separate thread regarding their message board chatter, but they have a thread about Tennessee fans. Basically saying we are whiney, we stick up for our criminal players if they are "good players", most of us didn't attend UT, we always blame the refs, etc etc.
-This tells you where they are in recruiting:
-They are upset about getting the Outback instead of Citrus. They believe they deserve it over Michigan, but they seen to be making themselves feel better by saying Northwestern "Still gets a big stage, but a much weaker opponent."
-They started a thread during Bowling Green's bowl game, saying "Tennessee's best win is playing." Apparently a 10-2 Bowling Green team is a better win than a Top 25 Georgia team. But let's be honest, they're Big 10. They refuse to believe strength of schedule is an actual concept.
-They believe Tennessee will get a "dose of reality" and a "lesson in big boy football" at the line of scrimmage.
-I'm not really sure how I'm supposed to interpret this:
-They call us "Voles"
-Uh oh, look out everyone:
-Can someone confirm this? Surely this is an exaggeration.
-This is what we call "reaching":
I've honestly never done one of these threads where I was able to pull such gems of quotes. Almost makes me wish we played them every year, although I prefer to play against teams the world actually cares about.
9-4 and a potential Top 10 ranking going in to 2016 are within our grasp. Let's pack out Tampa and get loud!!
Also, side note here: Thank you all for your support on these threads all year long. I enjoy doing them and they seem very well received. Obviously this will be the last one until we see what Appy State fans are saying, then it's The Battle of Bristol Edition! Until next year, friends.

I'm a Vol fan, just curious to see what Northwestern fans thought of the matchup, but I get the impression this may not be the best place to find out based on the lack of posts
Three hours and no response. At least they have an open board. . . [crickets]
We could just come take over their board. They'll never know
I came over here looking for what they thought about the match-up....interesting..
I always wondered where the Internet comes to an end. I wonder no longer
a few more posts from that thread I thought were funny:
I claim this site in the name of UT. We'll call it, "UT Chicagoland"
Hello..Hello..Hello
Is there anybody out there?
Just nod if you can hear me.
Is there anyone at home?
I am alerting the FBI that ISIS could communicate on this board undected for years and that they should monitor accordingly. I have never been in this dark of a corner of the Internet.
I feel like I'm walking around in someone else's house while they're not there and uninvited.

Get us to 11 wins.
I think a win over UT would mean that Northwestern beat another non-conference team from the Power Five, something we've done frequently in the last few years.
Not as beneficial to recruiting as a win over a blue blood program like Florida or Georgia or LSU would have been. Probably similar benefit as beating Mississippi state was.

Did you all get that forward pass on kickoffs deal worked out?

Poor Vandy. Can't imagine having to play these clowns once a year (not to mention living in the same state with them). Makes me appreciate what they have to endure on a week by week basis. As much as I like to see Vandy lose from a recruiting perspective, I don't think I'll ever root against them vs. UT again.

Eight point favorites! Give me a break! Anthony Walker will shine and Warren Long and JJ will pound me silly

Voles fans-you have been warned.
Tennessee Fans
I am 6'3, 265 pounds, 3% bodyfat. I squat 600 (for 10 reps), 500 pound bench, and 675 deadlift. Goatee, crew cut, and old spice. I just finished my workout, took my post workout supplements, did a few poses, and wanted to post on here after a few years off of working on physique.
This is not a warning, this is an ultimatum.
I was recently on vacation, and saw a Voles fan at the beach, and later at the hotel gym. We had a friendly conversation. I helped spot him with his 135 max bench. I jokingly let him know that the TN football team will need as much help as he does on the bench when playing the Cats. He ridiculed me, so on the next spot I let him drop the weight on his neck. I think he was crushed as bad as some of you are over Woodson winning the Heisman.
I will be patrolling the lots before the game in my Northwestern muscle T. You will be able to tell who I am on my sheer physical appearance alone, broad shoulders, and calves like cows. You will address us by "sir" and "mam", and will be grateful you are able to play us.
I have seen too much pandering back and forth on this site, and its time for it to stop. It is inexcusable, the war is over.....you lost.
I was an All American wrestler and will be putting some of you toothless fans in headlocks until you are completely in submission. If you disrespect any Northwestern fans I will be on to you quicker than a brother is onto his sister once she hits 17 in Tennessee.
I am open to suggestions from Northwestern fans as well on how I should handle this (as open as Peyton Mannings marriage is).
Here is to a good game, and no problems. If there are problems be ready to be headlocked by my 20 inch biceps and the smell of oldspice.
Phil
-Can someone confirm this? Surely this is an exaggeration.
You can bet it'll essentially be a home game for Tennessee. That's not to say Northwestern fans aren't passionate, but when you've got a student body of 8,000, the alumni base isn't going to be all that big.
-This is what we call "reaching":
Despite all the bluster of the SEC, I will never take their conference seriously until I see them schedule some of their late-season non-conference games at P5 cold-weather locations.
I think the SEC teams know they'd likely lose even to a mediocre MAC team if they had to play them on the road in wintry conditions, and so NEVER schedule anyone in this way.
So with all your chest-pounding, SEC fans, please explain why you can't man up and play football in true football weather. What absolute chickens.
I've honestly never done one of these threads where I was able to pull such gems of quotes. Almost makes me wish we played them every year, although I prefer to play against teams the world actually cares about.
