What other message boards are saying (Akron Edition) (Plus Pitt Postgame)

-I was not impressed after all that bark from Tennessee. They might win the Sunbelt, I guess...

Probably need to ask Slovis/Patti if UT were all bark. All in all it was a hard fought W for UT. To me once UT settled in there was really no worries that Pitt could produce enough offense to actually win the game. UT beats them easily without the questionable fumble and muffed punt. Unfortunately mental mistakes kept the game closer than it really should have been.
somebody needs to tell that Pitt fan and anybody else their team is favored to win the crappy ACC whereas Tennessee is a mid-level mediocre SEC team what a bunch of clowns!

I think you are being overly dramatic ... Pitt will either play their 3rd string QB or 2nd string QB with a bum ankle (depending on the severity of his ankle injury) and they will still beat Western Michigan. [Western Michigan beat Ball State 37-30 this past weekend] Look for Pitt to dominate them like Vols did.
I am assuming the Slovis (reportedly suffering from a concussion) is going to be out for at least this weekend.

Pitt is beat up. That hit by Baron on Slovis was lethal, I knew He wasn't coming back. (Head hit the turf hard) Well yeah, they should beat WM, but lots of people out. Spread is only 10! SO we shall see.

That's the most aggressive I've seen UT play in the front 7 in a very long time. Not sure about the whole D but I have high hopes that was a breakthrough game for Baron. Not big stats but he pushed the pocket.
Yea I thought the Defense was extremely violent against a team that's well built in the trenches. The best way to slow any offense is to hit the QB early & often. I think that's something you can sustain. I don't expect GA 2021 Defense, although I do think our defense can win some games for us. There will be some plays like that 76 yd TD run, but they're are also gonna cause a ton of mistakes by opposing QB's.

I give Pitt credit, they fought hard because they were 2 or 3 UT mistakes from getting run out of the stadium. If Cedric Tillman doesn’t drop that TD, it’s 31-17, game over. If Jaylen Wright doesn’t fumble, it’s game over. If Trevon Flowers doesn’t muff the punt, it’s game over.

But at the end of the day, screw Pitt. Tennessee was definitely the better team and the better team won.

This is spot on. We beat ourselves down the stretch and still found a way to win. Tenn. made this game a much harder one than it had to be; kept them in it. I pray that we clean that up and play a solid game this week and go light out the following.

I don’t care who you play in the SEC. You make that many errors you can get beat. Go Vols!

These are the types of games u need headed into Conference play. Yea it's nice to beat down a cupcake for confidence, but u need a slugfest. Sure u want to play flawless, but what happens when u don't? Regardless of what happens in a game they now know they can overcome it.

LOL... UT played WAY below potential on O... and still beat Pitt. Hooker at times was bad. As in not better than Milton a year ago bad. UT still won. And we aren't talking about forced errors. He flat out missed open WR's.

For all the pre-game chatter from the media, Pitt, and even some UT fans... UT was the more physical team. "With Slovis"... he continues to get abused and there is NO reason to believe that UT was going to miss more run fits that badly or blow another coverage against their TE. Abanikanda broke off a 76 yd run. Otherwise Pitt avg'd 1.7 ypc. Outside of that one long throw UT kept everything in front.

UT doesn't need to give up the big play. But if you want to understand why the D allowed UT to win... you look at what Pitt did otherwise. They had 3.4 yds/play outside of those two plays. UT throttled them and it wasn't just after Patti came in.
1000+++

They are also acting like if Slovis stays in we still make the exact same incredibly uncharacteristic mistakes we made all second half.

They are really saying

Oh if Slovis played and then they magically fumble on a third and one, squander two drives, muff a punt, drop passes, same costly penalties and not block a guy and get a punt blocked..... then we for sure win! And they gotta not be able to respond at all.

It's amazing they can't see how damn lucky they were to stay in the game. But I guess they've only seen us play them where we have been uncharacteristically sloppy against them.

Isn't that weird? Something about Pitt makes UT play "sloppy". Credit them I guess for their style of play... but that's two games now that really shouldn't have been close except that they were.

There is a picture in another thread showing that Banks got WWF clotheslined....from behind no less..and pulled out of the hole that Chewbacca ran thru on that 76 yard TD as well. Blatant, terrible no-call....the ref that lines up behind the Pitt QB and the ref that lines up behind the MLB just HAD to have clear line of sight to that blatant hook move...

BTW...the officials other than the head white dude had it in for us BIGTIME the whole game. That head man picked up flags of theirs over and over, and reversed some bad calls by them simply because he knew the rulebook and they did not...i hope all the SEC refs do not abuse us like that in conference play because they resent us going so fast. We will get screwed again like we got hosed by Ole Miss!

Just watched the replay and it appeared that Banks had back side responsibility for something. He then almost ran Abanikanda down from behind all while the announcers talked about his "sprinter's speed".

Yeah that's why I'm not concerned at all about special teams or our ability to take care of the ball.

I believe in Heup's two seasons the only games he's had multiple TO's have been against Pitt.

Maybe because it's the second game?

A lot of people wearing blue and gold and some wearing orange saying our defense didn't play well. I guess I was watching a different game. Our offense and special teams kept giving Pitt the ball in plus territory and except for the muffed punt possession we gave up no TDs. The offense also had several 3 and outs, dropped passes and stupid penalties to kill drives. You give anybody 3 turnovers in your red zone and 6 other possessions in a half and only give up 10 points, that's pretty good D. Not to mention getting the last stop in OT to win the game and most QB pressures by a Vol team since they've kept the stat. But yeah average at best..shm

Hoping to find out what a Zip is.
It's literally a Zipper. Akron was basically the zipper manufacturing capital of the world. In fact the word "Zipper" was the original brand name Akron-based B.F. Goodrich used for the closure on their rubber boots. Prior to that, zippers weren't very common and had generic names "Automatic, Continuous Clothing Closure" and "hookless fastener."
