What, no discussion here of the jobs report? I'm shocked.

November jobs report: Unemployment falls to 7% - Dec. 6, 2013

"The United States lost 8.7 million jobs in the aftermath of the financial crisis. As of November, it had gained about 7.4 million of those jobs back."

......

"This was a strong, good quality report, showing continuing momentum," said Deloitte's Chief Financial Officer Frank Friedman. Deloitte alone is planning to hire about 18,000 people this year in its tax auditing and consulting businesses.

"We're optimistic about 2014, and we continue to hire at a pretty robust pace."

.......

The transportation and warehousing sector added 30,500 jobs, and health care added 28,000 jobs.
Meanwhile, manufacturers hired 27,000 workers and construction companies hired 17,000.

"This year started off lopsided -- low quality jobs were growing, but only in the last few months, the high quality jobs are coming back too," said Rajeev Dhawan, director of the Economic Forecasting Center at Georgia State University.

....

And a warning to the GOP. Will they blow up this fragile recovery just to score some more anti-Obama points? I bet some try.

"The economy is poised for takeoff but suffers from headwinds," Dhawan said. "If we can survive January and there's no shutdown, we can take off."

I think the bottom line is that it is time the GOP, and many of you here, stop rooting for the economy and the U.S. in general to fail, just to spite Obama. Time for your hatred of him to yield to the bigger and much more interests of the country.

We could have had the same discussion a year ago: some jobs are being created, but overall the economy is lethargic and will probably remain so for the foreseeable future.

The new normal.

Not a good number at all. How many of these jobs are temporary part time hires for the Holiday’s/ In one article I read UPS alone is adding 20,000 temporary hires and JC Penny is adding about 5,000. There is also FEDEX who usually hires many thousands this time of year.

As if their hatred has any impact on the economy. Why do you care that they might want Obama to report failed numbers? If these numbers turn bad again are you going to change your mind about Obama?

I don't have time to look it up right now, but didn't the US lose quite a bit more than 8.7 million jobs? That sounds low.

Hard to make that case when they're talking about extending unemployment benefits again.

To truly get out of the rut, we'd need to be having 250,000+ jobs months.

if the high paying jobs are coming back then why the emphasis on raising the min wage? Seems odd

also the disability rolls are still at a record high

this manipulated UE rate is useless no matter who is in office

7.9% UE rate if the labor force participation rate was the same as last year, 10.8% if 2009 levels

The UE rate for those with a college degree is 3.4% while those without a degree its 11%

Long-term unemployment still over 4 million, which is higher than it was in September

NFP November 2006: 136,758,000
NFP November 2013: 136,765,000
We have made 7000 jobs in 7 years

The current unemployment rate of 7 percent is "seasonally adjusted". Obviously you do not have a clue as to what this means.

We've got 4 positions open all starting between $20 and $25 per hour with full benifits that we're having trouble filling.

I've had guys (at least they were honest) tell me at the start of an interview that they are just meeting the UE requirements, that's the only reason they were here.

Obviously we have a long way to go. I'm not saying the chore is complete. But then again, its not like one day you wake up and all is perfect in the economy. Its trends. And numbers like these build confidence and spur investment and growth, as evidenced by the markets up a full point-plus today.

Were they offered the job and turned it down in favor of UE? If not, your point is totally irrelevant.

Really. Who could trust anything coming from this bunch anymore. You have to take everything with a grain of salt. Most transparent administration ever. Yeah right.
