So what is everyone’s thoughts on how the offense can improve? What needs to happen?

Lesson from the Florida game was not to let a bad offensive performance cause the defense to slip late, and that lesson was certainly applied. They also had much better shot selection against Auburn. Next up is just hit the shots, keeping in mind that slumps are normal and not permanent. Don’t let it get in your head.

Need more points in transition when available, slow walking the ball up against a talented defense simply makes scoring that much more difficult, particularly on a bad shooting night, against Auburn there were several opportunities to move the ball upcourt in an uptempo manner, but the guards elected to walk the ball up into a defense that was already settling into the man to man scheme, we'd like to see the team improving on offense as the season wears on and better teams and the better talent roll up on the schedule, we shall see,

The sluggishness on offense is a ticking time bomb that may go off at a most inopportune time, it has happened before in winnable games this year on coast to coast television

It’s too late to be making any huge philosophical changes or anything, we can try and get some different looks for some guys but as many others have said making shots is the biggest thing. Defenses are now playing us to match what we’ve shown we are best at, they are pressuring our guards to take away open 3pt looks as well as being physical which hampers on cutting and motion off screens. Where that defense is vulnerable is guards driving and also leaving posts 1-1, so we need to make those areas pay, if we don’t then we just really make it tough on ourselves. We need Zeigler to be able to knock down those 12-15 footers as well as the floaters closer to the basket, we need JJJ & Phillips to also continue to drive it into the paint and finish and/or get fouled, and then we also need our 5’s to take advantage of the matchups and shooting 60%+ from 2. You do these things and defenses will be forced to loosen up a bit, if not they’ll continue to run us off the 3pt line…we are still managing to get some open looks from 3, and we’ve gotta hit those, free throws as well.

I just feel like our offense is constantly just running back and across the 3 point line looking for a small lane that closes in a second. Bumped layups.

We will be fun but come tourney time. Don't expect some big sop story about how we lost when we see these issues now

The inside game will fall mostly on ON as the other big men struggle. Barnes has to recruit some big, athletic guys. They don’t grow on trees but they are out there.

Uros can’t consistently make a layup with someone in his face, and I cringe when he goes to the foul line. He’s slow and not a good rebounder though he’s 7’1. I’m watching the game rt now (I missed first half yesterday), and Uros missed an easy layup then bricked both foul shots after he was fouled on his rebound. The technical was questionable but Uros us to be smarter l. Barnes said Uros still hasn’t learned he can’t chirp as much.

Mashack needs more min but Barnes prefers more experience on the floor. My hope is Phillips and JJJ will be more aggressive driving to the goal and hit the mid range jumper. As you said, hitting those shots will enable them to dump it off to ON underneath. But our guards have to get it going beyond the arc or TN won’t make a run in March.

You're CRB's secret VN account, aren't you? C'mon, tell the truth! ;)

I think we need to push the ball up the floor faster, and when we have a good shot in half court early in the shot clock take it. Many times I have seen us pass up open shots early in the shot clock and have to settle for a contested shot as the clock is running down.

Teams are coming all the way out to the 3 point line to guard us, so a little more movement in our offense, a few more good picks should open it up for us to attack the rim & get to that FT line! We have been giving up a few to many 3's on defense also! If we guard the 3 line a little tighter & take less 3's & attack the rim & get the other teams in foul trouble, we will be in that Final 4!

Yeah, this theory that we are getting wide open threes and just can't hit them is laughable. Teams are taking this away. Our shots are rushed, contested, and too deep. Then when someone does get wide open they are ice cold and miss. Fortunately we have been doing the same to our opponents all season as well.

It's in their head. Nobody can miss that many layups unless they're just choking. If they learn to deal with the pressure, they'll go far in the tourney. If not, they'll be out in round 2 again.

Uros is actually the only big who can make a five foot shot with someone in his face. Unfortunately, other teams have learned that all you have to do is foul him. It will continue until he gets off the 40% FT streak.

2/21 is a horrendous number even if all 21 are considered guarded 3’s, which they weren’t. I would say 6/7 if not all 7/7 of JJJ’s attempts were considered “good” looks, now if you want to discuss why he’s getting open that’s another topic, but if he’s going to be a 12% 3pt shooter then we’ve got a whole different set of issues to discuss. Zeigler and Vescovi combined for 13 attempts, I would say close to have, probably 6, were considered good looks at 3.
