What is YOUR particular superstition?

The morning of the game, I raise the US and Vols flags. Then, before the game starts, I light the Tennessee candle (huge orange thing a family member gave me for Christmas, couple of years back). Then, just before kickoff, I take a pull from my hip flask full of Jack.

The candle is a relatively new tradition; the other two are long-standing ones.

The superstition is that any of them make any real difference. Other than the shot of Jack, I know that helps. Me, not necessarily the game, but me.

Go Vols!

If it is a close game I will watch from the concourse. My dad started doing it, and now I have picked up the habit. Mainly I get nervous, and up at the concourse I can walk around. I can also throw a dip in away from the wife which helps calm my nerves a little.

Superstition does exist, because it's in the minds of the individuals who hold them.

Luck also exists. It just isn't influenced by the color of your shirt, socks or underwear. Those things may give you some confidence in the final outcome. Placebos (sugar pills) have been shown to have some effect in treating various ailments. This is due to the person believing they will work. But they don't really do anything. Your "lucky shirt" makes you feel better, but has less effect than a placebo.

Ask me, and I will say we were "lucky" when Stoerner fumbled the ball in '98, disregarding that Billy Ratliff pushed the guard that caused Sterner to stumble and fumble. In my mind, it was still a lucky play, for all those things to happen as they did.

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Just a little heavy for this topic, don't you think?? Besides, someone great (don't remember who) said "you make your own luck".
