A buddy and I are roadtripping from Virginia Beach, Virginia for the Wyoming game. It will be our first time ever to Knoxville, first time (obviously) to a Tennessee tailgate, etc. We will be in town from Friday afternoon to Sunday morning, and we want to know what we absol-UT-ely have to do/see when we arrive. Anyone have any favorite bars (we like the blues and heard of a place called Sally's), restaurants, etc. What about game day? What do we need to know to enjoy our one-time trip to TN? (By the way, we are both around 40, so we're looking for age-appropriate events.)

Calhouns on the river--great drinks, pretty good food, usually a lot of eye candy to admire.

not familiar with Sally's, but from your description, you may be referring to Sassy Anne's. It is a blues bar/club in the 4th and Gill (streets) area. You can also check out metropulse.com which is the online version of the local entertainment paper.

I took my 11 year old son to his first game and these were the things I made sure he experienced.
You need to find "the strip" and wander down it just to pick up the vibe of the crowd If you don't have an eleven year old with you it would be a great time to have a hearty grain beverage somehwere. But don't get too distracted because you need to be sure to get to the stadium front early enough to see the players walk down through the VOL WALK. They will soon be followed by the band marching down and pausing to play some songs to "the hill" before marching into the stadium. I like standing on the parking lot edge because you're a bit elevated over the scene.
