I see the VFL tag tossed around kind of liberally. That's fine. But, I would like to know who comes to mind, when you think of"Vol For Life"?
For me, I think of the guys who gave their all for Tennessee, every time they suited up. Not always the guys who were super talented, or the guys who got all the attention. Guys who over-achieved. Guys like JJ McCleskey, Darren Miller, Mark Hovanic, Andy Spiva, Craig Puki, Steve DeLong, Jimmy Noonan, Darrly Hardy, Ernest Fields, Josh Dobbs, Johnny Jones, Greg Amsler, Mose Phillips, Andy Kelly. These guys surpassed their star rating, if they even had that back then.
Of course, there are the obvious suspects. Al Wilson, Reggie White, Chuck Webb, Peyton Manning, Heath Shuler, Reggie Cobb, Jamal Lewis, etc. But, I think of the guys who laid it all on the line, every saturday, and made some of the most memorable moments, in Vol history. The Craig Faulkners and Victor Peppers'.
Such good memories, over my lifetime. Who will ever be able to forget John Ward and Bill Anderson, bring us the play by play?No one did it better!
Let's not forget the coaches and personalities as well. He might not have been the best coach, but I have a soft spot in my heart for Ol' Johnny Majors. A true VFL. Flawed. But orange to the core. He brought back to respectability, from the brink of ruin. From him, we got Fulmer, Cutcliffe and Chavis. Which led to greatness, once again.
One thing they all had in common.......They Bleed Orange. They all have a special place in my heart. Thank you, gentlemen!

In the narrow sense that I think the phrase was originally created for: UT student athletes who are committed to the school for life.

In the broader sense: all of us -- alumni and supporters (not necessarily alumni) -- who support the university despite the W-L records of its athletic teams. It does not mean that you can't speak out when you think the school has done something wrong, but it does mean that you still support it and hope it rights the wrong.

In that second sense, I am a VFL.

I can't help but think of Dooley because that was the first time I heard "VFL". Obviously not fishing for "likes" with this reply, but its what I think of.

Same her unfortunately. Dooley coined the phrase and came up with the program so, sadly, he's the first thing that comes to mind when I hear it.

Yes! When I think of what you said, Charles Davis comes to mind. He is and always has been a great ambassador for the Vols.

Someone who hates Bama, Florida, and Georgia.
Someone who loves General Neyland, Peyton Manning, Pat Summitt, & Smokey.

We stopped at the walmart in Cleveland Georgia yesterday, and I saw a VFL tag on the front of a car.
