What if.....we WIN

I don't want to lose another game but I also don't want to go to Atlanta. We just do not deserve it. Making it there at 9-3 is a consolation prize, and the last thing I want is Butch having any sort of notions that what he is doing is working. Because it is not.

Staff changes and scheme changes need to be made. Something has to happen. Because we have shown severe regression from last year, especially on offense. We have been injured on defense, so I will give that a pass, but I still haven't seen much of the Shoop effect.

All I can say, is that if Mike DeBord and possibly even Mahoney are still on staff next season, I refuse to pay hundreds of dollars to watch us run right, run left, pass short of the line to gain, and punt, regardless of how badly I want to see Guarantano.

So you will be pulling for gators to lose only 1 more SEC game, so we won't go to SEC @ 9-3. And this result will not give the Butchster an excuse for not making coaching changes? Sounds legit. SMH.

And what if we make it and Alabama beats us by 40 again?

That would be better than not making it. We have to win out to win the east. Don't worry, we don't lose to Tech, not happening. The team is about to get focused and win out.
Go Vols!
Plan D it is.

People can call me a negavol, but the last thing I want is to backdoor our way into the SEC title game. We don't deserve to be there, and getting in because everyone else in the division sucks just as bad is not appealing.

And even IF we win the SEC title, I don't see that doing anything but reaffirming to Butch that "the process" is working. We will stay stagnant. Things need to change if we want to have a shot at a national title. Backdooring our way to Atlanta just gives Butch reason to not make any staff changes.

That's the last thing you want? To back door into the SECCG? At this point that's all I want. I don't even expect to get in the playoffs now, but I would like to see us do our part from here on out. Florida beats Ga who cares, we need to handle our own business and with the team meeting and Hurd leaving it looks like there just might be somebody to lead this team, it's about time. I miss you Al Wilson. I hope all is well with you and yours.

Go Vols!

The Tech game is irrelevant when it comes to winning the East.

What if we still make it to the SEC Championship game and come out of it with a W. Will everyone look back at these past couple of days and laugh? Does that suddenly solve all the problems?

This ain't professional wrestling...we aren't gonna beat bama this year...

Well, that's a monumental "IF", austin... at this point with everything going on, VolNation isn't prepared for this hypothetical because it's very close to absurd.

First, we would have to win out. This is entirely possible, but...

Second, Florida would now to have lose to both Arkansas and LSU, or lose to 1 of those and blow the South Carolina game. As well as they are playing, I wouldn't bank on this happening.

Third, we would have to beat Alabama. I cannot even fathom a scenario in which we beat them at this point.

To answer the hypothetical though... it would obviously alleviate a lot of the concerns, but no, I don't think we would look back and laugh. More like, we'd look back and be pissed that we had a legit shot at the playoffs if we'd just taken care of business against South Carolina. Still, we'd likely be going to the Sugar Bowl I suppose, which wouldn't be bad at all. It also wouldn't signal an end to ALL of the problems. We still have glaring needs across our depth chart going into next year and recruiting would be in the crosshairs.

Point to a place in my post where I said I am pulling for the Gators. Ridiculous. But my point is logical and makes sense regardless of whether or not you agree with it.

Butch doesn't need anything that he can reaffirm as his "process" working. Look, in no way would I be disappointed if we made it to ATL, but we aren't beating Bama and a 9-3 trip to the ATL is just a consolation prize. If anything, like I said, it will give Butch an entire offseason of talking points about how we achieved our goals and the fans should be happy, when in reality the narrative should be we were the best of the worst and were lucky to be there. We haven't EARNED a spot.

If there is a change in the offense, and IF we win the remaining games by 35-55 points, then yes that might solve some of the problems.
If however we continue limping along, barely winning in OT to lesser opponents then no. Even if we go to the SEC championship and continue as we are, again no. We will just be striving for mediocrity.

You said (paraphrasing) "the last thing I want is for us to backdoor our way into the SEC title game." Since you indicated that you did not want us to lose (assuming we don't), the only way for us not to "backdoor" our way in is for Florida to lose no more than 1 of their remaining SEC games. That is how I read your post.

I understand your concern that Butch will leverage our participation in the SECC game as an excuse not to make coaching changes. That is a risk some of us are willing to accept.

Winning the SEC title is the opposite of mediocrity. In the OP hypo winning the SEC championship is the scenario. If that happens, TN is champs of the conference.

Ok, look. This is absolutely a fantasy thread.

That said, all this stuff about "backdoors" to Atlanta and "we wouldn't deserve to be there" are a bunch of hogwash.

It's really simple. If you win the division, you "deserve" to be in Atlanta. Whether you have a really great team or not. It was true last year when Florida went, and the year before that when Mizzou went, and back in 2011 when Georgia was there, and 2010 when South Carolina got there, and 2002 Arkansas ... 2000 Auburn ... 1998 Miss State ... etc., etc.

You simply do not have to be a College Football Playoff caliber team to represent your division in Atlanta in December.

We're very likely not winning the East this season; but if we do, forget this bunk about "deserving" and "backdooring."

This team won't make it. The garbage head coach took care of that against Will freaking Muschamp. There's no way this big east clown could scheme up a win vs Alabama, LSU, Auburn, or Texas A&M...

Stop living in rainbow land.
