Exerpt from KNS. Sorry if this has been discussed. I thought it was hilarious.

Trooper called Q. Hancocks mom to let him know about his recent performance.

Motivating Mama: Receivers coach Trooper Taylor said Quintin Hancock’s practice intensity has improved since a recent phone call from his mother.
“I had a long talk with his mom and told her that if he’s not on the plane to Cal, it’s his fault, not mine,” Taylor said, referring to the travel squad for the season opener. “She wants to take that trip. She’s already bought her plane ticket.
“She made a nice phone call and let him know how she felt about it as well.”

That's hilarious. If our coaches can't motivate Quinton, at least they're resourceful enough to put Quinton in touch with someone who can motivate him.

It's funny at first. But the more I think about it, it's not so funny.

But if it works - she can call him to motivate every freakin day.

They? That was Trooper's doing. Trooper knows how to push all of the right buttons. That should would get my a** in gear, especially if my mom had already bought a ticket.

Insert your momma joke here; i.e.:

Hancock said he wasn't worried about her calling his mom until he started leaving her money on the dresser. :eek:hmy:

all kidding aside it shows me that TT is a very creative man esp in regard to motivating players....which hasnt always been Phil's strong suit.

Perhaps Arkansas should try this tactic, maybe they would'nt have so many moms acting as an embarrassing manager.

Once when Arian was a freshman, he missed a class. Troop got the report and called me. I called Arian to find out what the deal was and he was shocked. I remember he said, "How'd you know that? I just got back to my room??" I told him you just never know when I'm watching so take your a$$ to class and don't miss anymore! :birgits_giggle:

That, IMO, is what makes Troop a good coach. It's not just about the kid, he gets everyone involved. He admits that if we're all on the same page, it works better. I agree!

Way to go fostermon!!! :clapping: We need to stay on our college kids (we were young once too). Troop is right on top of the "knowing which buttons to push" department in order to get the best out of "his" kids!!!!

i agree, these coaches are crazy busy and for troop to take time to call someone's momma says a lot about him........

I was down in Destin Florida a few years ago right around spring break time. My best friend is a middle school teacher so when we go on vacation to party, it is usually on his spring break. Anyway, a few UT kids were there and I ran into a few players (none that I had ever heard of and were probably walk ons). They said Trooper was calling them all the time during the break to make sure they werent in trouble. One told me that Trooper called his mom and dad when he skipped a class too.

Trooper seems like not only a great coach and motivator but a great guy too. I like having quality people as coaches.

at least he is surrounding himself with assistants that are good at the things that he doesn't excel at.
