For the sake of argument: If Jalen realizes his decision was selfish and impulsive; and he agrees to toe the line from here on. Can we / would we be able to keep him on the team?

Before I get blasted...Im not saying he would, or we should, etc...Im simply looking for debate.

Remember that this is a young kid that may have just made a rash decision that could very well change his course in life.

If his team mates welcome him back, and if he wants to move to TE, then I say yes.

You want a guy next to you in the trenches who quits? I wouldn't.

The only thing to ponder now is who gets the #1 jersey next year.

Jennings, Daniel or Berry will be the only ones that "deserve" it

I say no because the bridge is already burned. If he did "rejoin" no one would accept him.
Could it happen? Sure anything's possible but assuming for the sake of discussion Jones said Welcome Back......I just don't see the locker room welcoming him back. Could even drive a bigger wedge through the team if it happened. What would the fan reaction be on Game Days? That would be awkward I'd bet!!

I highly doubt his teammates would welcome him back. He quit on them. So you think he deserves a free pass? I think not.

Honest question, no bashing.
Has any of us never made a stupid decision in a fit of anger?
I know I have.
We all make mistakes. I feel like (as mentioned above) if his team mate are willing to give him a shot, and he admits he's done/said/decided things that were stupid and is willing to humbly atone for it and refocus on contributing to the team, perhaps he can earn another shot.

I really love the concept of protecting and keeping instate talent (which he certainly has) here at home.

And I do think he makes a better TE

Yep. He quit during the damn game. He can kick rocks. You may not like the coaches, but you don't hang guys you care about out to dry like that.

Jones left and came back. The kicker here appears to be many of the behind the scenes stories. We don't know the truth of the climate in the locker room, team disposition toward him, etc... That would be the deciding factor in whether Butch and the team welcome him back, in my opinion.

Could you ever trust this sort of person to be a good teammate and do the right thing ever again? C'mon man, a sixth grader wouldn't want anything to do with somebody like that.

Time to switch to TE from RB is not after the Alabama game in the middle of a season.

Screw him. We got 2.5 of his 3 years.

Time to move on. After all, he may be a Canadian football league star some day. See ya.

I have made poor decisions, too. Team mates forgiving and welcoming another back into the circle of trust could be/is a very powerful emotional process. More positives than negatives are realized if, and only if, the team willingly and fully forgives and accepts him back.

What if all you on here realize it was a great decision on his part if he goes somewhere else and shines , and has a long NFL career?

One of the top rushers in UT history, playing behind probably the worst o line of anyone in the top ten, for a coach who has no idea how to utilize the talent he has!

A damn good player, that the only foolish part of his decision is he didn't do it sooner!

Another paper win for Butch , all his stars looked good for butch's recruiting class even though Butch new he didn't fit his "system"

That's right, even the announcers were saying during the game that he was not right, little did we know it wasn't an injury, it was attitude, in fact it was so bad that the coaches pulled him from the game. Actually, he may have cost us the game Saturday because of his obvious lack of effort. I think that is what led to all of this!

Kind of hard to put the toothpaste back in the tube at this point.

I think the best he can do is make amends off the field if that is something he chooses to try to do.

It would take major balls to ask to come back. I think he would be welcomed back but would probably lose his starting spot. There is no chance he moves to tight end this year. Maybe if he stayed another year

Life lesson. You don't make decisions while upset. Take a moment to cool down, sleep on it, then make a decision the next day. He slept on it and made his decision to leave.

I don't think it was a fit of anger...on his part. Something got said in the team meeting and maybe that compounded with previous bad team vibes and the choice wasn't his anymore. I hate the reading of tea leaves and body language of teammates during games, but he was utterly alone after scoring an important TD Saturday. I noticed it immediately and obviously I wasn't utterly alone.
