What if Butch asked Peyton if he would do this.

If he just handed A&M the win with a FG?...yeah he would have been crucified...and rightly so. It's easy for us to take those risks.

If a stupid play had been called then criticism would be justified (like GA last week v Vandy). But with a yard and a half for a 2 point conversion for the win, you can't fault trying it. I don't recall much, if any, criticism against Tom Osbourne for failing to convert a 2 point conversion versus Miami for the Natty. TN had almost 700 yards against Tx A&M. No problem going for the 2 or trying to pick up less than a yard for the 1st down in the 2nd OT. It's not like the Dobbs interception for the loss wasn't criticized either.

No you're wrong because you try to twist every subject into a failure by Jones. There are plenty of criticisms of the coach that I agree with.
But there are posters who would try to make the price of gas the fault of Jones, if they could find the way.

3 of "Jones' cronies" are no longer with us. So I don't buy it anymore.

He sends the kids to Manning's camp.

He talks about getting advice from former coaches and players, and invites them all to come in and do that anytime they please.

These are all real things that actually happened. Your statements are nothing but your speculation.

Evidence V your 'feels' but I'm just being argumentative. Ok

Right, they're an opinion, my opinion, which I am sharing on a message board. Some of you are so sensitive to the fact that Butch may not be here long term its actually funny. This is where coach worship gets you. And for the record I've never been in the fire CBJ crowd, Dooley yes. I have however been in the fire Mahoney, let DeBord be OC/OL coach and hire a QB coach crowd.

At one point he owned a house at a Marina on the Knoxville side of the dam (Chickamauga Lake?). Rumor was that he'd never set foot in that house.

He probably has a place at the property that Thunder Thornton is developing near Chatty.

According to what I read a few years back He doesn't live there anymore. He does own a house in Harrison on the lake but I have no idea how often he is there.

No never said hiring a QB coach would be giving up control. He said UT sends its QBs to camp every year, which is fine and my response was why hasn't he hired a QB coach. I dont think Peyton wants to coach at any level of football, period. But I also believe that if he were interested it would never happen because of Butch Jones ego. Not a conspiracy just an opinion, I'm sorry if I refuse to worship a man making 4 million a year.

I bet that Peyton would love to coach his son in Pop Warner or the Grasshopper League that he might play in. But the circus atmosphere around it would be a hassle.

I called it "silly" to think a coach - ANY COACH, wouldn't love to have technique advice fom an expert.
And you shoot back by calling that "coach worship".
You're right about one of us being sensitive. I strongly disagree about which one.

We can just agree to disagree about all matters except we both want UT to win.

"Why didn't we run it...we ran it successfully all day". :). I remember the Miami championship against the Canes...I don't think you have the pulse of Vols fans down tho. Whatever doesn't work? The OPPOSITE was the "no brainer ".

Maybe while he's at it he can go ahead and be our next AD too, you know...on the side.

Why stop there..lets get Al Wilson to come back as a defensive / LB "analyst" also.

And go ahead and get things in the works for Eric Berry to come back and consult the secondary once he retires.

I love Volnation. GO VOLS

Volnation: Where our coaches decisions are so obviously wrong and no one is ever satisfied.:thud:

Have y'all figured out that Peyton doesn't want he job yet? He has nothing to gain.

When I retire, I hope people don't beg me to go back to work for free, and I'm pretty sure they won't.

OC/QB Coach (the fact that it's not done yet, is a shame!)

I could see it. He would probably want a monstrous paycheck for anything he does though. He might like taking a break?

The heck with coaching, can we sneak him in the game to throw the ball down field...

Why would Peyton want to coach for us with the way our fan base treats coaches? He would be smart to never put himself in that position

Maybe he's already been asked and declined the offer ?? What we need to do is get Fulmer back AD/ line coach. Maybe then he'll lift the curse ;)

You know how Saban got creative to bring in Steve Sarkisian as a sort of consultant.
Remember how he also did that with Kiffin before hiring him as Off Coord.

What if Butch asked Peyton to do something similar for just one or two seasons.
Peyton could be a kind of unofficial QB Coach.
He could even enroll in a Grad school class so he could be considered a Grad Assistant?
Just imagine him working with JG and Dormady next Spring.

I doubt Peyton would want money.
He doesn't need any.
In fact, he donates a lot of money to UT.
This way, he would just be donating a little of his time until he decides if he wants to get a full time broadcasting or pro football coaching/management job.

No chance.......all of these things are beneath him.. future NFL team ownwer
