ESPN is coming to Knoxville for the gator's coming out party.

What do we have to do to stop it? I know there's a 100 threads on the topic, but I don't know the game like y'all do and I would really like to learn things this week.

Thanks to anybody who replies with solid input. It's sincerely appreciated.

1) UT has to have balance on offense. They must run the ball well.

2) Must protect Bray.

3) Pressure Driskel and force him to make mistakes.

4) We must not let the kicking game beat us.

Show up ready to play, protect the football and play as well as we played against NC State.

Have to contain Driskel...can't give him running room like we did against ncst, we were lucky they didn't have a very mobile QB.

We are most likely going to have to score every poss. Especially if our deff doesn't come to play that game.

Will we have the personnel to play like we did in the 2nd half of the NCST game?

1. Disagree, we just need it to work well enough to keep Florida honest.

Rest I agree but I'll add:

5. The return game needs to show up big....Young and CP, this is directed at you.

Don't be scared. Our passing game plays over and above teams. All we have to do is play our game. Bray has not been stopped with a full complement of weapons. We don't need any miracles. They are an average team with no offensive weapons. Worst UF offense since before Spurrier took over. Have confidence Volly.

Their offense is not that good. They are not going to score every time they get the ball. I guarantee our defense will stop their offense better than they can stop ours.

Play disciplined, protect the ball, win the turnover battle. If UT does that, they'll win.

The UT offense is too explosive to shut down and UF has no passing game, they're one dimensional. If we play well it's going to be a long night for UF. They'll struggle to score 17 points and we'll score 30+. JMO

If you want us to score 84! They wont get 20. Why are people acting like they have their 2008 team? The tables are turning. Croom and ZR would start for them. :eek:lol:

In the past, it has been vital for UT to contain UF's speed, namely Demps and Rainey. This year, its more about containing Driskel's running ability, Tyler Bray having a big game on the big stage (and if he does, his stock will sky-rocket), and doing just enough in the run game to keep the Gators honest on defense.

Also, as always, special teams will play a roll. I like our big return threat with Young and Patterson. I think we may bust one on them.

I think we need to be taking quick shots to the endzone. JH and CP are two of the best WRs in the country, and no one throws a better deep ball in college football than Bray.

That's our strength. We can score points very, very quickly. If we can get out to a quick lead, they'll have to rely on Driskel to throw, which should open up even more opportunities. If we play 100%, I honestly think this game has the chance to be a blowout.

1. UT needs to run the ball just enough, and with enough success, to let teh gators know we can run it. Every DC we face knows that the passing game is the Vols bread and butter, and knows we are going to throw the ball and throw it a lot. I liked that we worked on the play action out of the I formation a good bit against Ga St rather than throwing out of the Pistol as much as they did against NC St. Gives the gator DC more to think about as we have shown we will run out of passing formations and will throw out of running formations.

My #2 is that UT needs to start the game strong. If UT wins the toss I say they should take the ball. Challenge the gator's strength with the Vols strength right off. We need to get the lead and keep attacking. The gators have a good running game and a suspect passing game, and are not suiting to coming from behind. Yes they came from 10 down against aTm, but they had an entire half to do it and aTm had nothing the 2nd half. I think the Aggies expended their energy the 1st half and when the gator D adjusted to what aTm was doing offensively, the Aggies had nothing else to go to. UT needs to attack the gators vertically the entire game. I agree with your 2, 3 & 4.

UT cannot give up interceptions. They have to win the air game. They must play close in the run game but don't have to win that. Defense will be important and a few big plays will work wonders. No fumbles, no interceptions ... UT will win.

This.

Their offense is terrible. Their defense is great but only if they actually have their head in the game, they weren't looking so good in that first half with A&M.

Don't they have some injuries on defense too?

General Neyland's 7 Maxims
1. The team that makes the fewest mistakes will win.

2. Play for and make the breaks and when one comes your way - SCORE.

3. If at first the game - or the breaks - go against you, don't let up... put on more steam.

4. Protect our kickers, our QB, our lead and our ball game.

5. Ball, oskie, cover, block, cut and slice, pursue and gang tackle... for this is the WINNING EDGE.

6. Press the kicking game. Here is where the breaks are made.

7. Carry the fight to our opponent and keep it there for 60 minutes.

Play with these.........we win...........GBO
