What has Butch accomplished to have "earned" more time?

I keep seeing that Butch has earned more time. He has earned more time based on what? Higher expectations that ultimately failed? Yes, he got us to 9 wins last year which is "woohoo great"

Florida gators fired Muschamp after they went 7-5. Honestly there is a realistic chance we go 7-5 this year. I don't think Butch has done enough to be immune to being fired after a 8-4 season. This was HIS year. This is the year we were to judge Butch Jones on and he has failed.

Let's say we win the rest of our games including the bowl game, that will be 10-3. Next year we will take a step back and finish 9-4 I will admit if we go 10-3 then Butch deserves another year because it is improvement, but I really don't see how we can take a step forward next year.

Is 10-3 where we want to be? Is this a successful season? The answer is a resounding no.

By the way, we won't finish 10-3 and that's why big has to go. 10-3 is just best case scenario.

Just waiting for all of the injury excuses from the same people who were probably defending Dooley when he was here.

But the truth is that Butch has gotten us out of the hole that Kiffin/Dooley put us in. Now it's time to look for someone who can take us to the next level.

They may take a step forward because of a different QB. An actual threat in the passing game is something UT hasn't had since Bray left

He's not done anything to earn more time. In fact, his teams have regressed to the point of exposing the coaching problem we have here. Good coaches can help their players win, and I didn't see and haven't seen any of that in a while. I see a bunch of individual players trying to rally, versus a team that is in sync with one another.

I don't think so man. I don't think we have good line coaches as well. Dobbs makes our offensive line look better, but he can't throw the ball. I think Peyton Manning would have struggled on this team.

5-7, 7-6, 9-4, 5-3 (with 10 wins still attainable)

Thats what

If he goes 10 wins then he deserves another year(even though we know he will be worse when he losses all these studs)

If he losses one more time this year than he deserves to be fired that day. He has plenty of money to get by, so instead of feeling sorry for him, let's clean house before the house burns down.

And hire who?

Is that the standard for a new coach taking over a dumpster fire? You have 3 years and then on the fourth year we will fire you the day you lose two games we think you should win and we will start all over again?

I bet coaches will be lining up for that.

He won't be fired anytime soon. The best thing for UT fans is to lower their expectations. 7 to 9 wins is the new standard.

It's not a dumpster fire yet. It will be a dumpster fire if we do what we normally do and give him more time to make it worse. Recruits see his lack of development and recruiting will take a hit. No coach will want to come once the cupboard is bare.

Butch has earned time following 2 tragic "reach" coaching hires post Fulmer. He has restored pride in the program and competitiveness. However, he must cut his losses with the offensive staff and upgrade seriously. Defensive coaching is fine - injuries have totally wrecked depth. They still compete hard given devastating turnovers from the offense.

A lot will depend on how Dormady and Jarrett develop and see if consistent offense can be put on the field.

Jones has done a good job with what he inherited but going forward it is on him to field an SEC contender. Tennessee does not need to be viewed as a coaching graveyard as was Vandy and Miss. state and support proven leadership and stability.

Who wouldn't struggle in the Butchfence? Horrible scheme and not being willing to change to adapt to the talents of your players is inexcusable. It doesn't take a high IQ in football to realize handing the ball to Jalen Hurd while he is standing beside you and then take off running is a terrible scheme.

to App St at home with pretty much a healthy team. You know if you stop and think we could very easily be 1-7 right now, and even the Ohio game was too close. I think last year was our hight point with Butch. Yes he has improved recruiting with some good talent and top 10 finishes but most of those classes were built on numbers instead of quality. 25 3star's against teams getting 4 and 5's. I had bought into the thought that Butch could find and develope the diamond in the rough, not so sure now.

ONLY beat Florida.
However with talent differential and coaching debacle they've had we should have had three wins.

I hear ya man. John Kelly is our best RB and Butch doesn't seem to see it.

As much as people don't want to admit it this is not all on Butch. You have to account that injuries is part of it but, and I wish this was not true, our biggest problem is Dobbs.

I absolutely love the kid and what he has done for this program but if memory serves his picks came when there was not much pressure.

The offensive scheme is, well, offensive but Dobbs is proving the naysayers right with slow decision making, poor throws to open receivers (on the rare occasion they are open) and seemingly a lack of leadership last night.

Hurd must be hurt or quit on the team as he did not look like himself. The only other explanation is this team has quit on us and I pray that is not true. If 120 has thrown in the towel then CBJ is indeed in need of replacement. NO REASON a team with a legitimate path to ATL should play this poorly.

If the problem is Dobbs than why isn't Butch man enough to make a change. Or is it because he hasn't recruited well enough in that position? Either way you slice it, Butch is to blame. He is a mix of Dooley and Fulmer. Dooley's game coaching with a mix of Fulmer's loyalty in all the wrong places.
