What Happened to The V-O-L-S

Me and a friend of mine have been wondering....where did the iconic VOLS signs go? They were on the old end of the stadium for so long and it seems no one cares that they are gone. Its hard to think about Neyland without them. I always think of the pic of the fireworks right above them. Are they being stored by the University? Will they ever be used again in some way?

So,will they be displayed somewhere? I just think something with that much history should be seen. Just think about how many big games at Neyland those signs towered over.

If they did indeed get auctioned off thats pretty sad. I always hoped that they would find their way back atop the new jumbotron. It seems like in every classic pic of Neyland had the iconic lettering above the scoreboard. I guess I just always figured they would be there forever.

I'm pretty sure you're right, I think they were trying to sell them all individually on auction, but then Calhoun's bought them all.

who played on some great UT football teams, brought me to Ktown for the first time to see a football game. We drove into town--and my first image of Neyland and UT football was seeing the big V-O-L-S sign atop the stadium. I got chills after all the years of hearing about UT football from my Dad. I'm very sorry they got rid of them--sad.

Shows you never can tell...I've thought they were priceless since the late 70s...hated they didn't use them...at least on the other side of the stadium...surely they could have put them on the cover over the opposite endzone.

Those big V O L S could be seen driving around the area...was a beautiful sight.

I believe they did. I think the plan was to display them at Calhoun's on the river.

The newer versions that were on top of the old 'tron were auctioned by the United Way of Knoxville last year.

I'm not sure what happened to the previous versions from before the '99 season.
