What happened to Elijah Simmons?

It could be since he was nursing injuries from fall camp, they might be limiting him some to let him get close to 100z%.

What do you want to bet he plays a lot and has a great game against the gatas? They've got to run it, enter the beast Elijah!

We need him to go full on Albert Haynesworth

He should get a half sack for the one Pearce got as Simmons actually shoved Pearce into the QB. That part was pretty funny. Simmons is what he is at this point. He's a rotational space eating nose tackle. Those types aren't going to rack up a ton of tackles, they're just hopefully eating up double teams and allowing the LBs to make plays in the backfield. He seems to be fairly successful in that regard, though that certainly doesn't show up on a stat sheet.

Depth is a welcome word! Imagine if we still had shy Tuttle and Khalil McKenzie inside with baron and young coming off the edges.. I think our defense is under rated as a whole. They are used to hearing all the talk about the offense and are okay with that but ready to prove their own worth.

McKenzie was a bust, in my opinion.

I thought Tuttle and Khalil didn’t live up to the hype, but most likely it was the coaching. Now, John Henderson and Albert Haynesworth was a nasty D-line.

If we are gonna imagine, let's go with Henderson and Haynesworth!

I’m starting to believe his role is to just plug holes, eat up space for LBs to make plays, and push the line of scrimmage back so others can get tackles for loss. Maybe this is why we don’t hear his name that much, but doesn’t mean he is not his job.

Yeah that humongous guy we sent to the Steelers didn't have a lot of tackles but really clogged up the middle including at least 2 OL every play.

No doubt why would you use McKenzie as a example of someone to be feared. He never lived up to the hype. GBO!!!!

From what I understand he just needs to make some adjustments. His coach wants him to play faster, but at the same time he is trying to deal with adjusting to losing some weight and trying to work on his conditioning. He talked about it some during the off season. I believe this has been a thing he's heard in the past, but has been taking more seriously here. I still have faith that he'll get things sorted out, I really hope he does. I mean the kid has the potential to be an absolute monster. At his weight especially he's super explosive and athletic. Like him being able to dunk a ball at that weight. Dave Hooker said one of the players told him he's the strongest guy on the team. They also limit your reps, but he is someone who was squatting 600 lbs and they had to stop him at 25 reps...mostly likely because it's awful for the joints. From a scouting perspective, you just don't see guys like him that often.

Also as some others might have said, but his injury from last season kept showing up again during the fall camps. He missed some, so maybe has to still make up time and prove himself further. I don't really know what to make of it, but every year he has been listed as a redshirt. He is again this year. On the UT website it says he still has 3 seasons of eligibility left? Not sure if that's true or not. If it is, then he has some time to really develop. Maybe someone else can explain it further, I still don't get how redshirt works and how someone could be listed as one every year yet still play. Or if he really has that many seasons of eligibility left...

In 3 man front, maybe. But his role, like all defensive lineman, is to defeat blocks and make tackles. I had looked for him to be major contributor. He certainly looks to be behind the other defensive tackles this season. I hadn't noticed him in there at all. If he ain't hurt then he's obviously down the depth chart.

Also, is it "depth" if it isn't a 'depth' of starting level players? I see the depth word thrown around an awful lot, but with zero context..
This. Simmons doesn’t quite fit this defense. They aren’t using a zero technique.
