What happened to Elijah Simmons?

I like our DL depth if he is getting late reps he has to continue to improve CRG is going to play the ppl who work the hardest and our DL has looked really strong this season… Simmons is really excellent depth I’m sure we will need him to step up at some point this season…
Depth is a welcome word! Imagine if we still had shy Tuttle and Khalil McKenzie inside with baron and young coming off the edges.. I think our defense is under rated as a whole. They are used to hearing all the talk about the offense and are okay with that but ready to prove their own worth.

You want to talk about a guy that disappeared...Khalil McKenzie, another total 5-star bust under Jones...

Simmons should get half of one of Herrings sacks from last night. He literally pushed Herring into their QB cause he got in the way lol.

EDIT: Or maybe it was Pearce…

Yes, he did. His name doesn't get called and fans won't know it. But film doesn't lie and he'll get credit in the room for it.

I’m starting to believe his role is to just plug holes, eat up space for LBs to make plays, and push the line of scrimmage back so others can get tackles for loss. Maybe this is why we don’t hear his name that much, but doesn’t mean he is not his job.
In 3 man front, maybe. But his role, like all defensive lineman, is to defeat blocks and make tackles. I had looked for him to be major contributor. He certainly looks to be behind the other defensive tackles this season. I hadn't noticed him in there at all. If he ain't hurt then he's obviously down the depth chart.

Also, is it "depth" if it isn't a 'depth' of starting level players? I see the depth word thrown around an awful lot, but with zero context..

From what I understand, they are working him into the rotation. We actually have a good mix of DL. The more we can play the better we will be. I have noticed that Eason looks good at times at DT. He is on the lower end of the rotation but I think he has a home there.
I watch a lot of DL play and I do always think when watching Simmons that he is not very technically sound. His hands are bad.

Yeah it's probably a harder regime under Coach Heupel than it was under Cornbread Pruitt i would think

I've seen quotes from Coach Garner about how important it was for Simmons to get his weight down, and I do not know if he did. I've hoped to see Simmons go monster for us. I think the D-Line will seriously need him during the season.
