What does it mean for troubled players...

Does a change in environment thru the transfer portal really help many players? So many of these young guys appear to be quite indecisive -- flipping around to so many schools. This was not the case years ago. You just want them to settle down and make firm decisions.

Depends on the player. However, years ago? It actually was happening, just not at this high numbers.

Players are going to transfer for a number of reasons. I would think searching for more playing time, and some kind of conflict with the school's culture are biggest reasons. Of course, being closer to family, breaking up with their girlfriend, and conflicts with local law enforcement (See Bernard King) will make a change desirable for some. Another minor factor might be having to ask ignorant questions from those within your media groups might add feul to his or her fire.

Did you feel this way with all the Vols that exited with Pruitt? Not being snarky, really asking.

I doubt we will ever know for sure, but I suspect most of those guy's names were probably among those they traced actually payments to. Might be a few exceptions, but those who were getting plenty of playing time? That was certainly not why they left.

Who knows? In a few years after they get outta football, he might open up about it. Then again? See my opening sentence.
