What do you think of Spread / Option?

I remember just 1.5 years ago the majority verdict was that Meyer's spread option wouldn't work against SEC defenses.

To be fair, though, the defenses are down across the league this year compared to normal.

I think Meyer will have success but it is too early to say for sure. I mean Florida really didn;t run the offense last year - Meyer adapted his system for Leach (which has to go a long way towards saying Meyer is a great coach). But has Florida really been tested with the true spread?
Like I said - I think it will probably be successful, but I believe you have to give it a least a full year before we proclaim it the next great thing.

I personally would like the spread option. Introduce it next year (Crompton has some foot speed) perfect it the following year. At least two deep threats (O'Neil, Moore, Jones). A big play TE (Cottam, Stocker). A slick, slippery WR/RB like Percy Harvin (Not sure we have one of those). This would open up our much maligned running game. Just my opinion.

The spread only works if you are willing to sacrifice tradition with something different. Wouldn't work here at UT.

the spread option is only effective when you have a mobile type qb running the show, ex. tebow, pat white, alex smith

thats why last year florida seemed to run more of a traditional run and gun offense although meyer added some sprinkes of the spread option, its all decided on a qb and you must have the right kind of qb to run the offense, which is why leak didn't run the full spread last year
