-Napier almost had an identical record to Sumrall

- Alex Golesch hardly has any HC experience compared to Hugh Freeze

- Will Stein hasn't been a HC while Stoops has built Kentucky for many years

- Ryan Silverfield, might be an upgrade from Sam Pittman.... although Ryan didn't do anything at Memphis besides suck.

- Ole Miss, Not sure why they made Goulding the permanent HC. I get rallying the troops and all but not sure if he's head coach material beyond what's left of this season, Ole Miss defense not that good.

I think the only team that really upgraded was of course LSU, but even then Lane hasn't won anything of significance.

While many people want Heupel gone, to me, this is looking more like a league where he can take over?

Every hire made is a risk. 80% of them will not satisfy the fan bases or get their team into championships or playoffs. 5 new coaches if I counted right. I predict one of the 5 gets into the playoffs at least once. The rest fail.

Most of these teams will probably play better. Often you see buy-in by the players and teams play above their heads for the new coach... this leads to idiots like Butch Jones getting contract extensions too early really before you've had enough of a sample size of their work..

It doesn't always happen that way but it is common. So be prepared to see a mixture where some fan bases will claim they have the next Saban only to then have to come back down to reality after a year or two.

Pittman might be a good add to Heupel's staff to get the offensive line better configured for SEC play, they flat got shoved around by the Vanderbilt defense Saturday afternoon, poor technique, angles and methodology, same set of problems that have plagued the defense all year

Pittman as OL coach would be a major upgrade.

Everything will be about the same. The teams that hired well will be offset by those who didn’t. Ole Miss will drop but that will be faster than LSU’s rise.
Yes, & the 9-game SEC schedule next season will be a baptism of fire for everyone...especially the newbie coaches. 🤯

Heupel is not taking over this league! Now that's hilarious 🤣

And we play a ton of them.
Auburn, LSU, UK, Arkansas. Of course Texas (for now) has Sark and Bama (for now) has DeBoer and Clark Lea is set for Vandy. Considering the named teams on our schedule next year, it actually works out pretty well given that a lot is new.

Alex will do well. It will probably take some time.

Defensive head coaches in the SEC are only successful if the either hire a great OC and completely turn the offense over to them OR the have such dominant players that the don't need great offensive minds. I expect ole miss to take a big step backwards

Everyone thinks Lane is a homerun, but I just don't see it. Lane is like the little brother. He looks good and has some great moments when he is trying to prove himself and make his way, but he can't handle it when he gets everything he wants. It's one thing to manage a team and over achieve when you have a few stars and low expectations. It's another when you have a locker room full of egos and and you are expected to win championships. I expect Lane to last 3-4 year max before he is watching another bus drive away.

Yours is one of the best synopsis I've read in a while. Spot on!

I would put $ on Golesh doing well. He had SF a tough team to play and he has been the best play caller so far in Heuple's career at TN.
I will caution this that Auburn is a tough place for a HC. Lots of backside meddling by donors etc.

So, since barely anybody is actually discussing the OP question, I’ll do it.

Ignoring the obvious best hire, of Kiffin to LSU-I hate to say it, but I feel like Stein to Kentucky was the sleeper hire this cycle. I hope I’m wrong, but I think he’s going to give us fits. Golesh is a great hire for Barn, and I think Sumrall is better than what Florida fans are giving him credit for, but I’d just consider him a decent hire. Nothing to scoff at, but nothing to be afraid of, either.

Worst hire this cycle was Arkansas and it’s not even close imo, Silverfield is an average at best coach. Never even made the conference championship in the American despite Memphis having the most money of any team in the conference. I think they made a big mistake not going for Stein or Chesney.
