I am purposefully making this poll so that you can select more than one option because we take multiple things into account. Just select your top couple.

Each one of these things gets looked at a little bit. Even the thread activity.
"How many people have viewed this thread?"
"20,345 views...hmmm...must be something about this guy I need to check out"

All of the above?

Film- a guy could have good numbers but not look like a great prospect on the field

Stars- for all the anti-star gazers this will hurt. These people are getting paid to evaluate prospects. If you think stars are irrelevant, that is mostly not the case.

Offer list- if you see a guy that's a high 4/5 star guy with good film and he has 1 d1 offer from Akron, you know there are red flags to look in to.

Position rank- mostly I use this if there are two guys I like, both with good offer lists, film, etc. Again the sites ranking these kids are "professionals" whether people believe so or not.

Where they are from- helps determine competition. If a guy dominates other great competition that means more than dominating the pee-wee schools of certain areas.

To use 1 the most I would say I would rely on an offer list more than anything. If you say film and you're watching highlights, I don't think that's the right answer... Like I said I use them all.

Hard working mentality.
Are they a self starter.
Their work ethic & daily drive to get better.
Do they study and practice on their own.
Are they a leader or a follower.
Maturity level.
Confidence (preparation derived, not cocky).
These are where I woul start. A lot of times coaches are blamed for a kids bad performance. It is usually due to the kid and his personal effort and drive to excel. It is hard for a coach to keep a kid from striving to be their best. That outcome is best achieved on one's own, with very little outside help required.

offer list for sure! theres about 6-8 schools i always look for as a judge of quality overall.

Bama
Lsu
Georgia
Florida
Michigan
Ohio State
Texas
USC-west

qbs i like to see ACC offers (Some PAC12 offers too like UCLA, USC, Orgeon etc.. ) and ivy league ones too, running backs and olinemen i like to see big ten offers ( they usually go after bruisers up there and thats the style of backs and linemen i love) all defensive postions i look for SEC offers especially in the trenches and and at linebacker.

Offer lists, to me, tell more than anything else.

Film is second, but I'm not a college coach who gets paid to notice the finer qualities of a prospective athlete, so as I said, I trust their opinions over my own.

Stars is the first thing everyone sees. then I'll check the offer list and base about 65% of my opinion from this, then I'll begin to read about them in articles.

If i get around to it I'll watch video...especially the highly rated guys.

In Summary:
1) Stars...because it's the first thing you see by there name and the perception of having highly rated guys is just as important as there performance on the field.

2) Offer List...don't need to explain myself here.

3) Articles and Quotes: I like to see what they have to say, how they answer questions, and try to get a feel for how they are leaning and what their character resembles even the slightest.

-Speed
-Video
-Offer list
-Level of talent played against in HS
-Also, coaches evaluation has to mean somethin. They know a little more than we do.

You forgot to add "WANTS IT" to the list.
