when the last four years of quarterback recruiting have produced J. Crompton and N. Stephens? We have signed ZERO QBs the last two years. You simply cannot compete with a situation like this. I don't think you can even make an accurate assessment on whether or not the coaching staff can actually coach. I can't even estimate how much of the playbook may be useless because we are painfully deficient at the most important position on the field. You could argue that a good coach should match the offensive game plan to the strengths of the quarterback, but there are many games when JC has no strengths. If these are indeed the coaches to return Tennessee to relevance, I wouldn't expect it to happen before 2011.

People don't realize that lack of QB play limits your offensive playbook like crazy. Hopefully things turn around. Go Vols.

Very true. Good chance Bray may be able to beat out Stephens next year since he will enroll in January

I agree, In all the other threads about us that were started saying we would win by 40+, I stated several times this was a team that beat us last year. I hate to say it but this is gonna be a repeat of last year until we get good enough QB play to keep people honest. Our defense can only do so much, it doesnt matter what school we play if we cannot keep people honest at the line we are in trouble. Our O line didnt look that good tonight, and it was obvious that we were gonna run the ball on 90% of our plays. I listened to all the radio shows after the game talking about not wanting a QB controversy and not hurting Cromptons confidence......confidence????? He was staring down receivers again, missing open receivers, and making bad decisions. He should have been pulled. One other thing was the fact we didnt run enough sweeps to the outside. Everytime we ran a sweep we gained 5-8 yards. Once we got down to the goal line and ran up the middle everytime, I was blown away. Basically Crompton should have been pulled. I dont care who you play if you give any team of caliber a short field to play they are gonna put up points, and you can only expect so much out of your defense. We still need better O line play, and better QB play to be competitive in any game we play this year. I predicted a 7-5 record this year, but now im having second thoughts. We just have to reallize we ARE in a rebuilding process and until we have a QB to keep an opposing defense honest, we are gonna continue to struggle. Opposing defenses will always stack the box until we can beat them with the pass, same as last year.IMO

it's highly possible, given this staff's history of playing freshmen with felt talent.

However, he's going to end up making alot of freshman mistakes - which often happens with freshmen qbs - so most likely it will be a little better, but not too much

Things will turn around on the offensive side of the ball when CLK gets his guy at QB that can do what he wants.
