What do you do when your defense can't tackle?

After five years we have a defense that lets mediocre teams score way to many points in games they should have controlled from start to finish.

I thought the defense looked physically weak. Maybe they were more banged up than we were led to believe

Recruit players that are good tacklers fundamentally, teach/coach the basics (which I'm sure they are doing), if players X wiffs on tackles and doesn't give effort then bench them plain and simple. Recruit a lot more depth.

It was shocking to see how mismatched they were at the defensive tackle position even in the Syracuse game. It was a glaring issue and I remember watching and talking about how bad it was at the time and how bad the defense would struggle all year.

It's great to have linebackers that can find the ball and be tackling machines, but when you consistently have linebackers with double-digit tackles, it usually means you have poor defensive line play.

The secondary just appeared to not want to tackle at all. Lots of diving and shoulder bumping instead of using your shoulder, wrapping up and running through the opponent.

To me this has to be vital when assessing recruits in their tape and watching them live. If they ain't tackling in high school, most likely they're not going to be tackling in college.

Seems like a lot of tackle attempts were more about trying to deliver a big hit vs wrapping up the ball carrier and securing the tackle. Still comes down to discipline and what the coaches accept in the training and practices. At this level, in considering recruits, portal players they should already have a good foundation on how to tackle that the coaches build on --- not start the foundation.

Get tougher kids. Start hitting for real in practice and wrap up and take folks to the ground. Quit the "thud" crap. Might as well put flags on their hips or go two hand touch.

Heck, you have 105 man rosters. Quit fearing injuries and start being football players and football coaches again.

Put them in the right positions and let them loose instead of on heels waiting to see where the ball goes and tackling will be better. When you are late in football, or really any sport i guess, more bad plays happen.

The team is Soft and the coaches are soft!!!! Perlotte is the only player we've got who wants to hit somebody. But , Banks and William Inge will ruin him! We have not had a real LB since Jeremy Banks ( I'm talking about how he played). He would hit you! Please don't bring up AC and Telander, they are terrible.

Who is this they that you refer to. Surely not someone on the current defensive coaching staff

You don't have to knock each other around in practice to work on tackling. Hit, wrap and hold until help arrives, all can be done with minimal impact.

Go watch Swain event on YouTube. Swain is at practice a lot and also knows things we don't about what's going on. The sunshine pumpers should really watch
