I am excited about the direction Heupel has our program going offensively. We can score points, even with average O line and RB,s. However, if Heupel doesn’t do something to fix this defense, it’s not going to matter. I’m not ready to get rid of Tim Banks but he has his work cut out as does Willie Martinez because our secondary is Swiss cheese. Warren Burrell could not start for Maryville College, and he’s not the only player on our defense that does not belong in the SEC. I understand Heupel inherited most of these defensive players, but now he has to get some players out of the portal that can bring our defense up to SEC level play or I am very concerned we may not win more than 5-6 games next season.

They only thing he can really do is recruit better players. That’s good to take some time. They definitely need to to hit the portal this off-season.

Lol. This team with this defense won 7. And you think they take a step back? Get out of here.

Transfer portal is all we can hope for with defensive backs.

I was thinking earlier while watching the defense play that UT needs to hit the transfer portal hard this off season!

It's puzzling that we haven't.

On one of the threads, I posted that the things I wanted to see from this game were the play of next years RT and next years DBs. Both positions were disappointing. Burrrell was decent during the year but got abused tonight. Both Davis and Crawford struggled at RT. Need to improve a lot in the off-season.

Ask yourself to name every cornerback Jeremy Pruitt recruited while he was hear and you’ll see the problem on this team. He only recruited 2 (Burrell and Thompson) and 1 is gone

I give him credit for moving Taylor to corner.

Sure but Taylor was already here. His failure to recruits CBs may be worse than what Dooley did with the oline. At least Dooley had one really good season recruiting oline men

I think Burrell got picked on most of the season. Go back and watch the South AL 2 nd string QB pick on him the entire game. Fortunately it didn’t matter. I totally agree about both RT’s, we need much better than what they give us

Someone from the Recruiting form needs to chime in but I think we picked up some potentially good defensive backs in the 2022 class. Only time will tell.

Not according to rankings. I know that doesn’t mean everything, but more times than not, they’re right

The cupboard is definitely bare at corner - strange since that was alleged to be Pruitt’s specialty.

I'v looked at that several times. I believe they thought he was out of bounds. I know that's no excuse. This is Keystone Cops worthy and likely to become a very popular gif.
Anyone remember the kick or punt return by Arky a few years ago where every single UT player missed a tackle? This was on that level of bad.

It was against a Dooley team. That's what I thought of when I was seeing that Beasley play real time. I'm not sure he starts for anyone else in the SEC.

New flash, this defense just gave up 48 points to a team that was missing receivers that had over 2,000 total receiving yards. If we don’t get several “ very good” defensive players out of the portal, we’re not winning more than 6 games next season

But this same defensive squad won 7 right? And you expect them to get worse?
