What cost us the game

90% Crompton 10% play calling. The play of Crompton caused the play calling to drop. One can't call good plays if the QB is turning the ball over.

Ever think that Crompton's performance in the first 3 qtrs might have led to the play calling in the fourth? Hell, take away the int.'s he threw, then the situation is entirely different come the fourth qtr.

They took it out of his hands late as they should have. I can't fault lane for his playcalling. He's handcuffed and in another tough pickle here just like he was in Oakland. Were getting ready to see just what type of character he has.

1. OL play
2. QB play

in that order

This. The play calling was fine. It didn't work because of poor execution. Our o-line looked terrible. UCLA blitzed from the blind side, and we could not seem to stop it.

You my brother are so right. The ignorance on this board is stifling sometimes. Everyone whines why we were so conservative. I guess people forgot Crompton killing worms and becoming UCLA's player of the game throughout the game.

Also running a sweep on the outside on goal line is a very risky play like a lot of people saying we should have done. For reference look at air force when they ran that sweep and (forgot who tackled him) we busted the play. I really don't know what you could have done at the goal line. I'm pretty confident CLK is scratching his head wondering what the hell he got himself into. You can't even run a playbook with retarded Cromton behind the center.

OL play was dictated by Crompton.

We ran pretty well in the first quarter, before Crompton 2008 returned.

When they knew we couldn't pass, they stacked the box and used run blitzes.

Simple math, 5 can't block 8 or 9.

Crompton finally completes a nice pass to Hancock over the middle for a 26 yarder to put us in position to win and then we run 4 times, 3 up the middle!!

Pitch to the right, fade route, Nuke package...anything but the expected and we win 20-19. Inexcusable...

Exactly.

It was to the point where not even play actions helped Crompton's cause. The safeties bit every time and he still threw it at the ground or a gold helmet.

Your dumb dude. What makes you think that Crompton would be able to throw that pass yesterday? He had barely any pocket presence and tossed the ball all over the field. The guy does not perform unless he is in a comfort zone that requires 5-7 seconds of pass protection. Also, his biggest problem is, he doesn't understand how to play QB. Most QB's understand how to view the field and find a receiver, looking off primary routes and understanding coverage. Before Crompton breaks the huddle I honestly think he knows who he is going to throw it to and he just laser eyes the receiver. If I was a free safety it would be hay day with Crompton playing that way. You can't stare down receivers and if you do you better put the ball on the money. The money isn't a worm on the ground either.

Amen. We beat the living pulp out of their QB. The difference in the game: he did not make the mistakes our QB did.

I am sure by the fourth quarter Kiffin did not have enough faith in Crompton to complete a pitch to a back, much less any sort of fade to a wr.

If we had called a sweep or something like that on the goal line, then UCLA would have blown that up too. They would just have had more time to get more white shirts to the ball.

When you can't throw and your OL is getting manhandled, there's really not much you can do as a playcaller.

Your post reaction to my post has nothing to do with anything I said.

i definitely agree that it was OL play, then crompton's play and play calling was fine. WITH the exception of our last two possessions. when their strong point has been DL all night, and they have a possible first rounder at DT, why run it straight up the gut from the 2 yard line? anybody think it would have been humanly possible for a ucla LB or DB to stop hardesty/brown at the goal line if they ran a little stretch handoff? let them get outside, to the corner. i GUARANTEE they would have scored. then we win. and then on the very last possession. 3rd down and we try to throw it to GJ and he runs the wrong route. i'm thinkin maybe we should try somethin different on fourth. hancock maybe? throw it to someone who has been actin like they know what they're doin out there. but no, we throw it to GJ again, and again he runs the wrong route. game over, we lose. other than those two instances, play calling was fine.
