100% facts
Well if that is the answer then start charging 1000 bucks for a single nose bleed seat 20 dollars for a coke 50 dollars for a hotdog 200 dollars for a hat and wow think of the possibilities 😛 question is outside of corporate donors will regular fans be willing to go in debt to buy a championship! Hell I don’t go to games anymore because I just don’t like big crowds and obnoxious idiots anymore!!
best point made so far and fairly indisputable. Same goes for some of the teams we barely beat this year like miss. State and Arkansas . I sure in the hell wish I would have had the kind of blind loyalty some of you give heupels sub par performance when ever I screwed up the job?

I wonder if the Football team is holding back some of its money for stadium renovations. Ticket sales were far more expensive this year, we lost our 2.4 mil QB, we let Jakobe Thomas enter the transfer portal....so where did the saved money go?
I think you nailed it on construction costs.

Pretty sure Vandy doesn't spend like Ohio State and they still dominated TN in Neyland with less talent.
We definitely need to improve our overall talent, but there are some coaching issues going on too.
Thank you.

Stupid fans are always thinking of throwing money at something at that will fix it.

Vandy beat the breaks off of Tennessee in Knoxville with QB that's going to be fat in 4 years.

Its so "Tennessee" to elevate mariginal players during a competition.Trey Burton from Florida got into the NFL based off that Tennessee game where we absolutely couldn't stop him. He did Jack the rest of his Florida career.

Trust me brother in the big business of college sports now you don’t have to be Elon musk to know that they have already thought of every way to get more $$$ out of the fans I hear there is going to be a ticket price increase next season! Soon they will probably charge you pay per view to see games?

And then it will come full circle from paying $100 PPV prices to watch UT play Pacific.

I am curious how our ticket prices compare to programs like Bama, Georgia, etc.

I believe this can be summed up as there is a "big difference" there

We get a 5* star Mike Matthews-who has issues catching the ball-a receivers primary job. We get high 4* Boo. Enough said.

Tosu gets 5* Jeremiah Smith.

Saying we spend $15 million or whatever on football NIL-great. But where is that money going?

Seems to me, we have quite a considerable number of players whose NIL requirements exceed their abilities

Have we had a top flight prospect who has actually worked out since Eric Berry? That's been almost 20 years ago man.

All of our "big gets" turn out to be basically busts-JG, Nico, Hurd, Boo etc etc etc. This is not limited to one coaching staff.

Our"big stars" usually come out of nowhere-low 3* Dobbs, Hyatt, and Hooker who showed up at our door with a suitcase.

Talent evaluation has been a problem around here for a long time. Occasionally, like a blind squirrel we find a nut though.
I don't know, I thought guys like Trey Smith, Alvin Kamara, Shy Tuttle, Ja'Wuan James, Jauan Jennings, James Pearce, Derek Barnett, Alontae Taylor and Darnell Wright turned out to be okay. The jury is still out on some of the guys currently on campus but I'd say 64 catches for 806 yards and 6 TDs is a pretty good start for Braylon Staley in his first year as a starter. Even Mike Matthews, in spite of the untimely drops, has 770 yards receiving as a first time starter. Also, Josh Dobbs and Jaylin Hyatt were both 4 stars, not low 3 stars.

Ohio State is also one of the few schools outside of the SEC with an absolutely rabid (and obnoxious) football fanbase that will squeeze itself for money until they get results.

They're richer and just as crazy about winning as us. In this era, that's a very hard combination to beat.

It's the same thing that makes TX and aTm so dangerous in the SEC. They have far more money than us and are willing to keep spending it year after year until it works for them.
Those schools are far BIGGER than us … they have dramatically more alumni , it’s just basic math. How many students are there at atm , Texas and Ohio st ?

I'm unsure but the major difference in Texas is there are some very wealthy, very football crazy fans of both TX and aTm who like to spend money and like to be seen spending money on the programs.

With Ohio State, they've just got a huge football tradition and cult-like dedication and lots of successful alumni who are supportive. They've been at it with decades and decades of obnoxious "Ohio against the World" mentality and support.

They hit the portal hard during the off-season. The talent gap was really small. You must have not watched them play much this year. They will go back to being Vandy next year.

Agree, they put together a pretty talented and mature team with size and speed. It will be interesting to see if Vandy hits the portal hard again this year to stay competitive.

Just a note about rosters too... Although by "talent" and star rank qualities, Tennessee should be way ahead of Vandy, but as far as maturity of roster:

* Tennessee – Youngest roster in the SEC, nearly 50% freshmen
* Vanderbilt – Oldest roster in the SEC, with 26 graduate players plus 50 more upperclassmen (juniors/seniors)

Does that have anything to do with what happened? Don't know...

Vandy going to be hurting a bit next year unless the portal is very good to them again.

If you want a championship caliber team you have to spend championship money on elite athletes. This game is no longer about school colors, now its the color of money. Spend like Ohio State and you get Ohio State results.
Unbelievably sad, but true

Portal will be great for them if they flip Curtis

Lot of denial on here that Vandy will revert to the Vandy of old simply "because they're Vandy." Last I checked, Clark Lea is a heck of a coach and Diego Pavia, as talented as he is, didn't play a single down on a defense that held our vaunted offense to 24 points. Vanderbilt will be a formidable opponent as long as Lea is there and as long as we continue our status quo.
Anyone that doesn't see this is in denial. Vandy is going to be a decent to good most years as long as Lea is there. They're going to get the 5 star UGA Qb commit. So times are a changing...
