In that off week only so many things can happen to cause us to play real UT football. I say it was motivation because 2 weeks of practice will not make you go from bad to great. The coaches or paper said something to spark this team and it needs to be bottled. What do you think caused us to play UT football?

I think it is a combination of things. Weve had some youth that I dont think was living up to potential. I think somebody (team mates, coaches) lit a fire in their bellies in that 2 weeks. I think Coaches felt jobs were on the line (as they were). I think they all were tired of reading all the criticism they had received (and deservedly so).

Thing is, like LEX said in his guitar shots, NOW we all know what they are capable of...and we will expect nothing less than what we saw on Saturday.

Sometimes it just clicks FV. I don't put to much into motivation alone. You can be very motivated and emotional but trust me, it wears off soon then it comes down to clicking. I hope we continue to click.

Why should we expect anything less. They set the bar,now lets see if they can live up to it. I think everyone here hopes they do.

There isn't a "magic dust" response yet? You guys are slipping...
I was about ready to break out the ole "perfect storm" quote. Yeah i can't ride phil right now. He may give me plenty of chances later though. But for one week ole phil got it done.

I just hope their not so focused on Bama that they overlook MSU. If they play like they did in the first 4 games, MSU has a good chance of beating the Vols. I don't think it will happen, but the idea continues to linger. Go Vols beat the dawgs 2 weeks in a row!

I said it before and I still believe it. The MSU game is just as important to me as the UGA game. I want Fulmer to show me he can take a team they are supposed to manhandle and do just that. I don't want to MSU in this game at all. Basically I expect a repeat performance from Saturday. I'm tired of how it always seems teams we are supposed to beat are in the game for far far too long. To add to that, Fulmer knows one game didn't make or break his season. If he really wants to keep his job, he knows he has to go week by week with the same fire they had for getting ready for UGA.

15 minutes of coaching tackling...

Too bad we had to wait for an open date to come up with 15 minutes...

bill if you or anyone else thiks we will throttle MSU you are mistaken. They have a very solid defense and have not been throttled by anyone. With about 150 int's against LSU they still played them hard to the very end. I expect a long tough ugly game that we win. That is just reality of playing MSU.

45-0 is a throttling, but granted that was put up by LSU. They lost something like 38-21 to USC. UAB, Gardner-Webb, and Tulane don't really tell me anything. Yes, they beat Auburn. Tennessee should have no trouble putting points on the board, and with MSU's qb situation, Tennessee should have no trouble shutting down their offense. Tennessee should roll. Will they is the question.

bill, I agree on the week-to-week assessment. 99% of the people who have shifted their opinion based on the UGA game will be right back where they were a couple of weeks ago if the Vols drop another game.

I did hear that Cutcliffe gave a very impassioned speech, which probably helped on the motivation side for the UGA game.

The way I look at it, I don't give praise for close losses and I'm not going to criticize for a close win. I really don't care if the Vols win by 1 point in overtime or by 50 points in regulation so long as they win.

Funny thing is if they had played that way against USM or Arky. St., we'd still have a load of questions.

But since it was UGA, you are right...the bar is now raised.

Well, to be honest, I dont think they can stop the UT offense. What has killed the UT offense is the UT defense. WHen you get down 42-20 to someone, your offense gets their running game taken away from them, making them one dimensional.

UF really didnt stop Tennessee when we had it close. When it was 28-20, we could have very easily marched the field on them. But, we fumbled the ball away and the whole course of the game changed.

There hasnt been a team this year to stops UTs offense. Again, it is going to boil down to if the UT defense shows up along with Special Teams tackling.

MSU stayed in that game until the ints finally got the best of them. The MSU defense is for real no matter how much you want to think it's not. 6 picks will get you beat badly (unless your playing the Bills).

they are 8th in scoring defense, 6th in pass defense, 10th in TO margin, and 4th in run defense. That puts them 6th overall in the SEC in defense. So they are average. Our offense should have no trouble scoring on them.

I'm really hoping you aren't already trying to give Fulmer an excuse.
