This is the most important hire probably in UT history, and yet once again Haslam and Company continue with business as usual and try to get "value"guy rather than offer elite pay to get top coach. If they had started out offering Saban and Meyer type money or more since so important to get it right this time, wouldn't be in this mess!!!

When this "search" started, I thought they understood how important this hire was and we would be paying big boy bucks and only go after big boy coaches!! This was not time for O.C. or D.C. guys to be interviewed!!!

Don't give me money not everything either. This isn't just money anyways. What makes Kentucky, North Carolina, and Kansas which is in the middle of nowhere great basketball programs...tradition of winning

What makes Alabama, Ohio State, Penn state, USC great tradition of winning
We are top 10 in wins so just like them we should expect great coaches.
I am tired if media using recent history to wipe away some 100 years!!!

But once again Haslam and Company thought they could just tells us to take it and like it and hire on the cheap!!!

I said I would have thought we would start right out of the gate offering that kind of money or more due to the importance of needing to get this hire right. No offer should have been to a non head coach, this should have been only the best interviewed and given top dollar.

Each coach now will be 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc. "choice"... we are in for a long process unless "money talks"... will any coach be passionate about coming to Knoxville? Go Vols!

I feel pretty confident that we'll be going through the fire/hire process in another 4-5 years. And whoever we hire now will have some insane buyout that has to be paid.

We might be better off to just name an interim from the current staff and play out 2018 since Currie had zero other options. He was banking on Schiano. Now they're scrambling and will likely make a terrible hire.

How was going after Gundy going to be a "Value" hire has you put it. 7 Mil a year is far from "Value"...

Gundy was NEVER gonna leave OK State! They only went to him to pacify us...the fans, because the think we are dumb rednecks. It was just to buy them time to do more bargain basement shopping.

You misread my post... I said we should have been offering this kind of money or more from the start, not after attempted value hire in Shiano.

do you mean right after Coach Fulmer, Kiffin, or Dooley...:)

PS. you're right...we should have...from the very start...:)

GO VOLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think we expected him to leave honestly. I think it was a power play to throw a # out there for other coaches to put feelers to UT.
